Re: Hiddink fired as coach of Turkey
No he's not. He's not the best as many of you said, but he simply chose the hard way by bringing up the underdog to be dark horse and he did well with Russia, PSV of the noughties and S. Korea. He also won treble at the highest level when Liverpool seemed unbeatable back then. He's just done it so long without real consistency in one dominating team, such as Pep and in weaker teams, not like Mou; so he's considered overrated by the bashers here. Benitez might be better tactically, but Hiddink is intelligent enough to do what he did against Barca with his short tenure in Chelsea, parking the Aeroplane who was followed by many great coaches to hinder the Barca ways afterwards, which lead them to resort to Busquetsque playacting.

Failed to qualify Russia for the WC and being beaten by Slovenia.
Failed for Turkey.
Do I have to name his past failures?
When will someone realize this man is really overrated and is nowhere near a top class manager.
He's better than Benitez.
That doesn't prove much.

Hope he becomes Sporting Director for us, AVB is doing a bang up job so a great sporting Director would be fantastic.

Agreed.
Although I wouldn't take him as a Sporting Director or anything like that either. Having experience isn't everything and Hiddink has really failed to shine for a good few years now.

South Korea didn't just cheat, they were one of the dirtiest sides I've ever seen, so even if it's harsh I'll agree with writing that one off, but it's unfair to say that his run with Australia wasn't successful. This doesn't even have anything to do with the Italy game, but he at least launched Australia into the position they are now following Farina's poor run.
A semi-final result for Russia at the Euros was a great result, but he basically wasted all of his credit when he failed to get them to the World Cup.
The forum is once again establishing that a coach is either World Class or worse than Raymond Domenech. He's not amongst the elite, but he's still a good manager, even if his last two projects have been unsuccessful. I agree with the others that he should give up coaching though.
