Boateng quits Ghana
http://www.goal.com/en-gb/news/2886/africa/2011/11/04/2742678/ac-milans-kevin-prince-boateng-quits-ghana-national-team
AC Milan midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has decided to quit the Ghana national team, the country's FA has confirmed.
The FA announced on its official website that it has received a letter to that effect. Officials have refused to comment on the sudden turn of events, but a statement revealed that a decision is yet to be taken.
According to Boateng, the physical demands of playing for both club and country at a high level have taken a toll on his health.
The player also explained that in order to remain healthy and avoid injuries, he has consulted his doctors and family over the matter and has decided to take the decision to excuse himself from national duties since he is on a special training regime that he has to interrupt if he is to play international football.
The German-born 24-year-old chose to play for Ghana before the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, where he scored against the USA and earned rave reviews.

Well on the plus side, he'll have more time and energy to devote to Milan, but that really is a shame IMO. Still so young and with a passion that would have helped advance Ghana's position in world football.

He is not from Ghana so I understand why he is not passionate in playing for their national team. I wouldn't want to play for another country either.

Re: Boateng quits Ghana
shameful act!
but its probably better this way cause ghana was always his 2nd choice.
good for us though as he wont participate in the acn 2012 (or is this only temporary?)

This is good for us, as he does not want to get injured, and we dont need it either! I bet he does not really feel like playing for any national team, being of mixed nationalities, it is understandable. Just because Germany is basically turning into Turkmany, it doesnt mean that EVERYONE in the country of multicultural heritage feels the same way.

He's half Ghanian, half-German.
And I have to politely yet completely disagree with many of you. If he didn't have any passion for Ghana, why did he choose to play for them over a must stronger side (Germany)?
This decision had nothing to do with passion. It was about health. And that is why it is a very sad thing to see despite it being beneficial to us.

na, he didnt opt to play for ghana over germany. he has had lots of attitude problems early in his career and was on bad terms with the german fa, so he didnt receive a call-up for some years.
it was either ghana or no world cup...

He's half-German and half-Ghanian and moved to Germany when he was 1 and a half.
And people are saying he is showing no loyalty to Ghana? He barely lived there
He's pretty much German

Re: Boateng quits Ghana
He makes me sick.
Who does such an indecent thing to a nation that embraced him and gave him the opportunity to truly shine among the real greats of the game in South Africa 2010?
Had he chosen Germany (admittedly his main nationality), would he have even made the squad in presence of midfield masters like Schweinsteiger?
He took advantage of Ghana's need to a talisman and took the role admirably, but he's played games with them since then and never really cared about them.
And his reason, phh... Physical demands? You 1.84m, 24-year-old, lazy-ass monster! What's the matter with you?
How many players over the age of 35 represent their national teams and cope well in the endless list of club-&-country fixtures?
Of course it's good for Milan that he won't leave early in 2012, but could we look at him the same way we did?
Oh and mark my words, whenever he gets the feeling there is the possibility of taking part in another world cup, he will send his men to negotiate a GLORIOUS return in the last couple of qualifying games so he won't miss out on wearing the no.10 shirt of Ghana...
Treacherous f***.

Someone on this forum said that Boateng was told he wasn't good enough for Germany and that's why he chose Ghana

Re: Boateng quits Ghana
In Boa's defence, he had actually never been to Ghana before training for the WC. But still, if I was a Ghana fan, I'd be fairly angry with him. 'Physical demands' is clearly a fake excuse, he must have some other reason for quitting.

Re: Boateng quits Ghana
i think he made a rather rash decision by choosing ghana over germany in the first place!, he could've waited a bit longer, he'd have been given the chance but i guess the chance to play at WC2010 was too tempting for him...

Pretty ruthless... but whatever. Now we don't have to worry about him being absent for an African Cup in the future.
