Chris Smalling
Has been amazing in defence tonight so far against spain. He is like the mixture of Vidic and Ferdinand mixed with some Pique. He reads the game so well, is mature and composed beyond his years, can tackle and has a great first touch and technique on the ball.
He has come in for us this season in place of the injured Rio, and quite honestly, we didn't miss Ferdinand. A future best CB in the world in the making.

What a great run from him just now in the build up to the England goal. What a player this guy is.

Re: Chris Smalling
Phil Jones played great too. Once he gets the same guidance under Vidic and Rio that Smalling benifitted from, he will be immense too.
Walker was fantastic too. Him and Smalling were by far the standout players for England tonight.

Re: Chris Smalling
even the spain team is good but they fail to create chances for goals and english player most of their forwards are wingers and not striker..

You mean, Wenger has a really good eye for talent. SAF just knows how to close deals -.-

Re: Chris Smalling
I chuckled when you mentioned a mixture of Vidic, Ferdinand and Pique..
But seriously, he's a gem IMO. I can see him going on to become a starter when Ferdinand steps down

Do you rate Chris Smalling at right back??he is playing right back position for Manchester United and England currently. I think he did pretty well.
however its kinda funny when see him overlapping as he is a CB body size LOL

Re: Chris Smalling
He has been very good at that position for United. And he has been tested, he did well v City, Spurs and Arsenal so far, and on Friday, Petrov didn't get a sniff. At times when going forward, he doesn't look like a full back at all, but he's defending is top notch.
Against Bulgaria he did seem very nervous at times, but that happens to any young player making his debut for the national team. As the game went on, he became more assured and looked really good.
Let's not forget that CB is his natural position.

Re: Chris Smalling
He looks a little out of place but he is doing a good job.
I think he's the best young CB atm, he's very good but at RB he looks a little bit uncomfortable.
