After seeing that GK list and how low he was it got me to thinking how does the forum rate him?

I personally think he is easily top 10 that i have seen and probably the best gk we have ever had bar Banks.......

totally agree mole, i always rated him up there with schmeichel as best prem keepers. apart from that Nayim goal and that Ronaldinho goal he was mr reliable. i'd probly say he was better than Banks, to me Banks had an outstanding game against Brazil which is the only reason he's generally number 1.
with Spunky in goal for England i always felt like it would take somthing special to beat him.

Tbh i havent seen much of Banks i just go along how my dad and grandad goes on about him lol......

It wouldnt suprise me if Seaman was infact more reliable and more consistent and funny enough when they discuss him they do mention the Pele save over and over again :brickwall:

Maybe he's the Bale of goalkeepers in fact Razz

I think his legacy was tarnished after that error in judgement against Brazil in 2002. :coffee:

But i havent seen enough of him though to actually make a judgement.

I saw both him and Schmeichel when they were not in their prime.

Taffarel was pretty shit lol; no idea why he's on any list and I saw a lot of his games. Chilavert was amazing... i think he was clearly better than Seaman. Seaman was better than Cech.

I think Seaman deserves to be in the top 10, if not the top 7/8. Great keeper, don't know why people keep using the Ronaldinho FK against him.

So if Seaman's legacy is tarnished for the WC 02 thing, what's the status on Chilavert's after he spat in Roberto Carlos' face?

chilavert was an average keeper who was just had a large amount of goals for a keeper, dont get me started on Barthez was good before united but then turned into a clown. i'd rate Taibi higher.
a keeper i really liked was Alex Manninger in his Arsenal days filled in for spunky excellently when he was injured, then arsenal sold him and i didnt really hear anymore about him.

Not better than Chilavert IMO.

For me England's 3rd best 'keeper ever.
1. Shilton
2. Banks
3. Seaman

If it was just about the goals then we would mention Ceni as well.

Barthez and Buffon had the two best WC tournament goaltending performances every imo. But Barthez was so reliant on athleticism and incredible reflexes that he lost his form very quickly as he got older... smaller stature for a keeper and couldn't rely on size to compensate. Peaked at the WC in 1998 then lost that edge afterwards imo. Slowly declined every year after. By the time the 2006 WC came around, he was still good... but just a shell of his former self.

But through 1998, he was just amazing. I thought he was going to become top 5 or top 10 ever at that point. Couldn't sustain it enough.

At his peak, he was very clearly better than Seaman's peak. Nowhere near the longevity.

Peruzzi was another one in that gk list i thought was too low, underrated goalkeeper imo......

After all this discussion i have decided to change the thread title.....

Somebody made a thread about the top 50 keepers of the last 25 years.

So now people are debating where certain people should have been on the list.
