But yet Squillaci is somehow still here
I'd rather have Denilson in midfield than Squillaci at the back
Hell, i'd rather have Dino at the back than Squid

Much was expected when Squillaci completed a £3million move from Sevilla last summer, with manager Arsene Wenger describing the 31-year-old as a centre back with 'quality and experience'.
However, despite making 32 appearances and scoring two goals - including the winner against Stoke City in February - his debut campaign was adjudged to have a been failure by many critics.
Several high-profile mistakes, including twice clashing heads with defensive partner Laurent Koscielny and being sent off against Huddersfield Town in the FA Cup, have made Squillaci into something of a figure of ridicule - even among his own supporters.
Wenger had previously brushed off criticism of the French international and kept faith with him, but even the manager finally lost patience after the mistakes continued during the 2011/12 pre-season, notably in the 2-1 loss to Benfica in the Eusebio Cup.
A poor start to the Premier League season saw Arsenal change their transfer policy, and while they were wrapping up a £9million deal for German defender Per Mertesacker, club officials were trying to find takers across Europe for Squillaci.
Newly promoted French minnows Evian were strongly linked, but they baulked at his wages, thought to be around £50,000, and with the Gunners refusing to pay half as part of a loan deal, he was forced to stay in North London as the window closed.
A troublesome calf injury has kept Squillaci out until now, but with the arrival of Mertesacker and Wenger's admiration of young defenders Ignasi Miquel and Martin Angha, first-team opportunities look set to be scarce.
looks like we will stuck with him for some years

Re: Denilson the fool
To Be fair if you take as many gambles on young players as Wenger does some are bound to turn out this way.
The reason he lasted this long is because Wenger has the worst Messiah complex in the world, he thinks he can convert any player into a star.
I think that's his best quality actually, What other manager was going to conver an ivorian left winger to a CB , and a great one at that.

Re: Denilson the fool
Denilson was something in his youth....how else would be have been captain for almost all the Brazilian youth teams...
he could have been a good player like Gilberto Silva... but he never had the passion...you could tell by the way he played never gave a 100% or chased down balls....always looked lazy.

Re: Denilson the fool
I remember a few weeks of him being in top form, scoring screamers for fun and generally doing a nice job in the midfield, even if they were back passes.
Then I don't remember what happened and he went back to his usual slump.

Re: Denilson the fool
Denilson when he first arrived, I'm thinking the 06/07 league cup mostly, was one my most favorite players. Very exciting talent. Was driving forward, could intercept, could shoot. I still liked him even in the last few seasons but the fact is, he isn't cut out for English football. He can't tackle very well at all, even in Brazilian league he can't tackle well. He is not a major flop because of the way he began his Afc career but he is not exactly a hero.
That is the first I have read about the Squillaci off-loading attempts (from gunnerlistic). The fact he is 'earning' £50k a week is very depressing but I don't see him playing for us again any time soon. The fact he still has an "injury" sounds suspicious.
