Wenger: ‘We are not after any players’

Arsène Wenger has revealed the Club are not actively in the hunt for new players.

With the January transfer window just weeks away, the Frenchman fielded questions on the subject at his pre-match press conference on Tuesday.

Arsenal were linked with a move for Borussia Dortmund star Mario Goetze in the summer - but Wenger has played down talk of an approach for the German youngster.

“At the moment in the transfer window we are just interested in keeping our squad,” he confirmed. “We have a big squad and we are not after anybody.

“Goetze is a very good player, I can understand there is a lot of interest in him around Europe.

“On our side though, I do not think this is the best time to talk about it.”

Espanyol want to sign Arsenal defender

Espanyol want to sign Arsenal defender Sébastien Squillaci, according to reports from Spain.

The former Sevilla centre-back has only featured once for Arsenal this season – in a League Cup tie against Bolton Wanderers – and looks to have no future at the Emirates.

Squillaci’s lack of game time has prompted Espanyol to become interested in the 31-year-old who they believe can still do a job in Spain’s top division.

Arsenal spent around £6m on Squillaci at the start of the 2010/11 season.

We don't need an actual winger though, imo. There aren't any that are available that are good enough.

I mean, you say you want Goetze, and he isn't an actual wide player. Same with Augusto. The guy is very talented, and I've always been a fan. Some might remember me mentioning his name quite a few times beforehand.

I agree, I really like him and I would love to have more Brazilian in our team.

If I am to compare him to a player, it would be to Ronaldinho of Milan (2009-2010). He's a less-talented, faster Dinho in his style. Drifts in a lot to help the midfield though, and is not afraid to shoot when presented with an opportunity.
