Gotze actually plays more on the flanks than he does behind the striker, for both club and country. I wouldn't say his natural or best position is AMC. Sort of like Eden Hazard, in a way. If, and I know it's unlikely, we did sign Gotze, I'm certain he'd be just as good on the winger than in the centre - and having that option to change it up doesn't hurt.

I want us to sign an actual wide player, though. We need the depth, and part of good depth is having the option to utilise different types of players.

I dont know what's wengers plan for Goetze, if he does come.

Right wing ? doubt it
Left wing ? will have 4 players in that position then

CAM ? Perhaps, or most likely but as Jay said, He rarely plays there. Although i think he would do quite well cause of his creativity and vision

Who do we have on the left wing apart from Gervinho? He'd definitely be deployed there. A more creative, slower Gervinho. Sheva as bench and supersub, but and he's leaving soon, anyways. Benayoun is only on loan.

AOC, Walcott etc. can fill right wing. Miyaichi, too.

His natural position is left AM, not center AM as most people think.

Another thing we have to consider is that Walcott may not sign a new contract, which would mean we'd have to sell him. I can see Arshavin and Rosicky both leaving, too. So who does that leave for the wings? Gervinho and a few youth players.

i agree, i was just saying to buy him or even gotze just to stick him on the wing isnt really worth it. especially at their price tags. we should be willing to play them centrally as well
