I am going to skip class on Monday so I can watch the Newcastle game. If we end up in third, especially given the circumstances we've been faced with at times this year, will this season be considered more successful than last? hmm

Depends how look at it, really.

Last season we were in the title race until mid-March, at least, but only three games after the Carling Cup final which is relegation form.

This season we were never in the title race but could end up finishing third because Spurs seem to be losing form, much like we did last season.

In terms of position it's an improvement, but I wouldn't consider it a better season.

Yeah, in terms of when we were at our finest it wasn't as good, but the epic fail at the end of last season still leaves a bad taste in my mouth. If we can end this one on a high note, I'll probably remember it in a slightly better light.

Basically, we have 11 games left this season, all in the league, we know what we have to do.

Easier said than done, but Wenger and most of the players have the experience of finishing in the top 4 and above Spurs, so we should be confident.

This season, at least, finishing third would be seen as some sort of accomplishment, so I'd probably view it in a better light, too. It wouldn't be a success in any way, but all things considering, it would defy the expectations of most fans.

We'll only be one point behind Spurs if we win on Monday, and we'll need to be consistent in order to go above them. We can't rely on Spurs continuing to collapse and Chelsea not finding some sort of form.

So as much as things are looking up now, there's still a lot of work to be done to finish in the top four. It only takes a couple of bad results for thing to change completely.

I think last season should have been the one we were waiting.. The Carling cup could have done wonders and i am sure the end result of the season could have been amazing..
This season we had no chance.. But if we finish 3rd it is really an achievement.. Who could have predicted in the beginning that we could achieve this with our squad..
The quality might have deteriorated but our fighting spirit tells this seasons story.. The hope and promise of a bright future remains as usual with the Gooners...

Some stats for though

Roy Hodgson PL record - P17 W6 D4 L7: 22 points

Kenny last 17 PL games - P17 W5 D6 L6: 21 points

Luck & football style aside, What would Pool do now if Kenny is not the King? Also consider the transfer money they spent respectively.

I remember most respected criminal Joey Barton saying he has no regrets of joining Queenspark after the fight. The reason was we were then 17th and he hoped that QPR will stay always above Arsenal..
And now ? Fighting relegation..?
Form is temperary but class is permanent.. Also to Traore who justified his transfer.. And now i dont care if United win no.20.. Just need to prove some idiots that money is not everything...

It's a lot easy to just look at stats and say "X is better than Y"

We were playing like Stoke with Roy ffs. We actually play football now, and if our 8% chance to score was around the 15% we'd be right in the hunt fighting for you and Spurs for the 3rd spot considering Chelsea is having a bad season.

Our season was over as soon as Leiva got the injury - he was the player that kept us ticking. We have no DM, and we're losing the midfield battle a lot easier than we do now. Add to the fact that we've missed 57325932432 chances, and hit the post 39213 times, we've done okay. A lot of positives to come out of this season, as we're still a work in progress. A marquee signing upfront and we'll be a team to fear no doubt.

Agree on almost all your post and feel genuinely bad for Liverpool of the last few seasons and I do believe that with time, Kenny would turn it around for you guys.

But coming to the part in red, I thought Andy Carroll was that signing :vagi: :lol!: :lol!:

Not saying Roy is better than Kenny, Pool playing some nice football this season. Just an observation because I haven't met one pool fan criticizing Kenny, I though some of the games Pool was out of depth attacking front, keep on playing under perform players. I mean if it's Roy, I think the general reaction would be different.

i would also like to ask these question from both set of fans
we mocking AW for calling top 4 finish a Trophy

just in terms of achievement
Not the way Liverpool run/manage their club, transfers, lack of some personel(clinical finisher) etc ALL THAT ASIDE

they won carling cup and probably deserve to Win FA CUP as well

of course we want end this drought
but would you really wanna have those cups and NOT Being in Europe top Competetion?
I WOULD be so depressed and not happy with cups if it was the other way

When Wenger said top 4 is our trophy because we were out every competition, so top 4 is our only trophy which is nothing wrong with that.

CL is our money & star players attraction, making top 4 is top priority, even the board said so. Get those two cups and miss out on CL, nope I don't like it. Liverpool will find it hard to bring in any good finisher next year if they does not make top 4.

The prestige and joy from winning the Carling Cup are great in the short term but in the long term a top four finish and the money and reputation which comes with that are far more beneficial to a football club.
