"Many things were said, sometimes you think a lot and it hurts you when you are trying to always do your best for a club and then it comes out that you might be going to Tottenham," Di Maria told Marca.

"These are difficult moments for a player and it is difficult to keep out of it. I was relaxed, I knew I was going to stay at Madrid. I spoke with the boss last summer, he wanted me to stay, I told him he could count on me. Things went well. I took a good decision and was European champion."

"I am very happy," he said. "I had a great year and the fans recognised that, I always had their support. Although you want to stay, sometimes you cannot because the club wants another player, or to make more signings, and needs to sell. And somebody must go. But I am very happy."

Wouldn't be surprised if that happened and we bought Ramsey or someone for €100m.

those percentages change so much lol
I remember the percentages for who should be our starting keeper in the preseason.

Casillas won. Then the manchester united game happened and he fell to 3rd behind Navas and Lopez lol

the one that fetches the most money will leave next season so won't be Modric, probably Jese or isco. I hope we get Ramsey but sadly Perez will go for an attacker

Post by Onyx Tue Aug 26, 2014 8:27 pm

In his letter, posted exclusively by Marca, Di Maria explained his reasons for leaving, stressing that there have been lies told about him and that he never wanted to leave the club.

Dear Madridismo,

My cycle at Real Madrid has come to an end. It is impossible to capture all lived through in a few lines, but it’s worth it to write this letter to communicate how I feel at this moment. Over the past four years, I’ve had the honor to wear this shirt, and I’ve never felt prouder for everything that’s happened together with my teammates.

Unfortunately today I leave, but I want to make clear that that was never my desire. As anyone who works, I’ve always wanted to make progress. After winning the La Decima, I went to the World Cup hoping to receive a gesture from the club directors, something that never came. There have many things said and many lies. They always wanted to make it seem like it was my initiative to leave the club, but I wasn’t. Unfortunately, I’m not like others. The only thing I asked for is something that was fair. There are many things that I value and many of them have nothing to do with my salary. I hope to find them in Manchester United, one of the world’s great clubs with which hopefully I can make history.

I’ve been lucky enough to share shirts with fantastic players, who have been even better companions. I think that was the key to getting La Decima. I want to apologize for the times that I was wrong, on or off the pitch. It was never my intention to hurt anyone. I drenched this shirt in sweat every game as if it were the last. There were times when things came from me and others no, but yes, I can assure you that I always gave everything.

I want to thank Spain for all that you’ve given me and especially for allowing my daughter to be born on this earth. And a very particular thanks to the people at Montepríncipe hospital, who I will always carry in my heart. My wife, my daughter and I will be eternally grateful. Also to my colleagues, who gave me their support, in the good and the bad, to various technical bodies with whom I worked with and also to all the people who work every day at the club, those of who I keep a great relationship.

I want Real Madrid to have a great season and earn the achievements that this club is always searching for. I’ll forver have the SuperCup in my memory, when I stepped out onto the Bernabeu for the last time and received incredible love from the fans. Thank you very much. I still have goosebumps. I can’t think of a better farewell, which unfortunately was my last game.

Hala Madrid! And farewell!

Angel Di María

I knew it had almost nothing to do with money. Perez needs a kick up the ass. he was probably told he was going to be a rotation player, which is total bs.

I am SICK and TIRED of people saying di maria had only 6 good months. In his four years here he played great at times and saved our asses on numerous occasions. Yeah, he had some shitty moments, so did benz, so did ramos, so did casillas. during the 2nd season he tore his hamstring after absolutely outshining ozil and tearing it up with assist after assist. Yet, its just those "6 months" he did well. We have assholes for fans. Grow up and stop playing favorites. Easily was one of our best players

I post maybe once every couple of months. But couldn't agree more. Just because he is no longer a Real Madrid player doesn't mean we put our blinkers on.

We are losing one of our best players. Period. And one with a unique ability - pace+dribbling+workrate. He is irreplaceable in our current system. Bad business.

We lost one of our best players in Ozil and we were fine. If Di Maria had left last season most of us wouldn't be over reacting like we are now, but we probably wouldn't have won la decima but we wouldn't have known that last season.

Di Maria definitely should not have left especially with how this season turned out though.

Perez always does this.

Here is a man who stayed back and fought for his place even after a 100+million player was bought for his position. He adapted, improved and played in a different position and won La Decima. A thorough professional. Such as shame that Madrid is letting him go. One word for Madrid/Perez - Ungrateful.

Also I don't like to compare Di Maria with Ozil. Di Maria is a fighter and Ozil is n't.

Fought for his place? LOL Bale was ten times better than him on the wing when he got going.

What happened was that Di Maria played in midfield after Khedira got his ACL injury. He did a great job in that position but it wasn't really planned and there was no guarantee it would work but we managed to do it thanks to his efforts as well as the rest of the regular starters.

Having said that he is a fantastic player and I am sad he is going. I'll always be a fan of him and his playing style and it's great that he won the league, CL and Copa with us.

Blatant lie. If that were true he would still be at Madrid since he had 4 years left on his contract.

He wanted more money and the club didn't agree so we sold him for 80 million when he wouldn't have cost half that last summer. To be honest aside from the fact that we are losing a quality player Flo played this 100% perfect.

Fight for a place doesn't mean fight for his position. LOL. Di Maria as a winger adapted to play in the center. He changed his roles from left to right and center - that is commendable. He is such a versatile player.

With Khedira, at the start of last season we are were not doing well even before he got injured. Yes Khedira would have taken minutes, but even if he were fit Di Maria's adaption in center would have made him a starter. He was the engine of our counter attacking unit.

Madrid may still adapt and find a style that suits the players, but for counter attacking unit there is no better player than him.

He was good enough to force Di Maria to midfield though. The difference was night and day last season when comparing the two on the right flank if you ask me. Having said that we'll see if Bale can keep it up, he's had a rough start so far but I think he can find good form soon.

@Nedved

Not the unit part, the engine part. Ronaldo is the heart of every good counter attacking move Madrid make, he is the engine of that style. Di Maria would probably be second best along with Bale in that respect.

A few myths to debunk about Di Maria:
First and foremost, we are Real Madrid, we'd have liked him to stay, but life goes on, and one player leaving should not destabilize the franchise regardless of who it is.

I keep hearing this talk that di maria was only good for 6 months, granted people are trying to get over his exit, but that's just ridiculous. the guy's original position (at benfica and probably even rosario) was as a left winger, not a right winger, not an inside forward, not central mid; but left winger. So one can make the argument that since his arrival at madrid he wasn't even played in his primary role

let's not forget, he also became one of mourinho's sure starters; the 3 in the 4231 formation of mou for the most part was ronaldo, ozil, di maria...and we know how difficult it is for mourinho to start players who blow hot one day cold another (ozil had his 60 minute issues, but that's another story)

di maria didn't even get the right wing position automatically, as ridiculous as this sounds, remember members of the spanish press were keen on pedro leon (who is originally a right midfielder) getting playing time .....lol spanish media

people say the guy did well for 6 months, but the reality of the situation is he only had a bad year at madrid, and that year, which was mourinho's last, everyone was terrible...his decision making lapses came mainly in huge games, but he more than made up for that with his willingness to run e.g outstripping valdez to get that away goal, destroying puyol, his cross to ronaldo in that copa del rey

now more recently, last season he got relegated to the bench by bale, and carlo found a spot in the middle of the park for him when he was supposed to head to monaco for like 35 million...carlo didn't just put him there because he likes him, lets not forget, bale got injured and di maria started, and had some fantastic games at rw last season...and we all know what happened at central mid i don't need to repeat that...

i'm more worried about the manner in which he and some of our players have been sold than the fact we sold a top player. the sale may bring trophies, and james may be a good deal, BUT, we can't expect player loyalty with the way we have handled some of our business
