OT: UEFA and FIFA getting seriously challenged
http://soccernet.espn.go.com/news/story/_/id/956968/uefa-may-face-champions-league-uprising?campaign=rss&source=soccernet&cc=5739
UEFA lost a court case in Switzerland where it retained its rights to the word "Champion's League" but the clubs won the right to decide to participate or not. Competing bodies like ECA and EPFL are seriously considering creating their own competition.
The problem: The clubs want direct 50% representation on the UEFA board.
ECA has also vociferously targeted FIFA over "nonsense friendly games" that are scheduled during the competition season in Europe. FIFA is strongly considering reducing the number of friendlies. ECA has also strongly criticized the WC qualifying process where they want groups of 4 teams as opposed to groups of 6-7 teams, thus reducing the qualifying schedule.
Major shift in power seems in the works.

Thats what i think is needed, clubs need more power, not some stupid executives who make the calls.

Yes lets give the likes of Berlusconi, Abramovich and the Glazers more power.
Great idea.
Thanks, but I'll stick with the fat French and the swindling Swiss.

Prob is UEFA and FIFA are both run very poorly all things considered
No doubt things will change maybe not right away but I can see it happening in the near future

Re: OT: UEFA and FIFA getting seriously challenged
Even if we keep supporting the idiots who run UEFA and FIFA they really are doing a piss poor job. Giving power to the clubs maybe a good thing not a bad one. It may hurt national teams yes but blame FIFA for dragging it to the state it is now in. They really are dragging football downwards instead of bringing it upwards.
In the end I really do see UEFA complying to the demands since they really are worthless without the clubs.

I dont think huge revolutions like this are good, but if it can stop UEFA being a complete joke, its gotta happen.
