Zarate in Arsenal talks



Arsenal are showing an interest in Mauro Zarate of Lazio, reports the Corriere dello Sport.

The capital club have suggested that they are ready to sell the Argentine, 24, should they receive a big enough offer for his services.

The Premiership outfit have apparently stepped forward as they look to strengthen before the transfer window closes.

The report adds that Zarate’s agent and his brother Sergio are in London to discuss a possible switch.

Zarate, formerly of Birmingham, is no longer guaranteed first team football following the summer arrivals of Djibril Cisse and Miroslav Klose.

Atletico Madrid and Spartak Moscow have also been paired with moves for the €18m rated forward

A Lazio exit is looking increasingly likely for Sergio Zarate after he was dropped for last night’s 6-0 win over Robotnicki.

The Argentine was left in the stands, fuelling suggestions that the capital club didn’t want to Cup-tie him for 2011-12.

“Zarate is an important and fundamental player for us,” stated Lazio official Igli Tare. “But if something happens between now and the end of the transfer window then we’ll evaluate things.”

The striker was reportedly upset at having to sit the game out, especially after the Biancocelesti ripped their opponents apart.

“Mauro loves Lazio and wants to stay, but not under these conditions,” his brother Sergio is quoted as saying.

Capital boss Edy Reja was also inevitably asked for an explanation of why the South American was omitted.

“I have eight strikers in my squad and I have to make my decisions based on what I see in the week,” the tactician defended.

“Whether the player is placed on the transfer market is a decision that only the club can make.”

The former Birmingham forward, 24, was linked with a switch to Arsenal only yesterday.

he is great talent and top class bit selfish yes but he is class and ownes ...ppl judge him only for last season ..name me one complete ST in Serie A as him who can dribble score twist u for 360 degrees and has such tech and good ball control ( Del Piero doesn't count lol ) ...

I'll admit I'v only seen him 4-5 times. I'm guessing you watched Zarate twice this year? Home and away ?
