Can Luis Enrique succeed at Roma?
Seems like an audacious attempt by the Roma board but one I'll be following quite closely. How do you guys think he will fare?

Definitely. He is a great coach: he has the Barça philosophy but he is practical and can adapt to his teams. Roma will play great football and do well (within his possibilities, that means that they'll finish 3-5).

Roma were a possession side with Ranieri. Luis Enrique could work with such a team.

Re: Can Luis Enrique succeed at Roma?
I think he can do well.
The only concern I have is defensively.
Barca B let in alot of goals did they not? Also in Italy, bad defensive teams get negative criticism just due to their mentality.
I think offensively he would be a great, possession football and they have already showed they have the players for it.
I wonder about Totti though. Enrique is a modern coach and all modern coaches (check all coaches really) are big on conditioning and physical prep, Totti these days doesnt look in the best condition.

I don't know why it can't succeed, there's no proof to what you say.
Plus, as I said, Luis Enrique is also a very practical and adaptable coach. If he sees he can't implement Barça's style due to lack of adequate players (more than country suitability), he'll do it with success.

Re: Can Luis Enrique succeed at Roma?
Great thread alfred. I asked this question earlier somewhere but it was overlooked. It does seem like hiring him is partly due to Roma having a desire to play Barcelona's style of football. Also I support the idea that he could be very flexible in changing his ideas if they are not working just like he was a very versatile player. What happens will be very interesting to watch during the next few months.
Re: Can Luis Enrique succeed at Roma?
What makes everyone say that he's very practical? I've watched maybe only 3-4 Barca B games and they always seemed to have the Barca philosophy engrained (although I realize that degrees of pragmatism don't require you to change your style).

I definitely would like to see him do well at Roma, we'll see in time what's going to happen though.

Re: Can Luis Enrique succeed at Roma?
Barça B under Luis Enrique definitely played with Barça philosophy, but he was more adaptable. In some games, they played with much more long balls or high tempo than Barça A. In some other games, for example the promotion to 2A, Luis Enrique started a very defensive team and got a 0-0 that secured the promotion.

Re: Can Luis Enrique succeed at Roma?
I meant to ask you guys this question, but I never got around to it. I'm kind of on the fence about it. He seems demanding of his players both physically and mentally, which is fine by me. But I worry for players like Pizarro who, when on form is really fantastic, but struggles with fitness. On the other hand, his offensive style could work with us since a pretty big chunk of our team is still with us from the Spalletti days. I'm looking foward to see what he could get out of our younger players. As for Totti, in order for the 4-3-3 to work out, he needs to play as the first striker and focus on acquiring new wingers.
It's a risky move in my eyes since he seems to attack without giving it a second thought. To succeed in Serie A, or any league or competition for that matter, you have to have a solid defence. It'll be interesting to see how he adapts and I'm very much looking foward to next season already.

Depends on whether he tries to adapt Roma to him or himself to Roma...

Lol he was by far our best player this year. 15 goals and 9 assists in Serie A alone (He would've had a lot more had it not been for the trouble he had playing under Ranieri). He didn't have any long term injuries and showed that he was in great shape. Whenever he didn't play, it really showed, despite the fact that he's 34. If he doesn't pick up any serious injuries, he's still got a lot left in him.

We're being linked with a bunch of Barca players... Bojan, Soriano, Jeffren, Romeu, Montoya, etc. Any word from the Spanish newspapers or is it not that big a deal?

He probably will be looking to coach in Spain (preferably in La Liga than Seyunga) though no rumours or interests...
