Re: Our Rivals
It won't happen no matter how it pans out in our favour. Because with Moyes in charge, we will drop points randomly to any frigging team. I won't be surprised if we drop points next week to Fulham. We are far too incosistent to take advantage.
Honestly, I've resigned into thinking we will not make top 4 this season. I've accepted it. And if that means Moyes will be closer to the exit door and more fans turning on him, then the better.

Re: Our Rivals
My only hope now is Everton get 4th spot, if Liverpool get it they have the financial muscle to keep it. The players they went in for in the summer, which they might have gotten if the were in the CL e.g Diego Costa, Willian would really upgrade their squad.

Re: Our Rivals
Yeah me too. Anyone but Liverpool for the reasons you stated.
So depressing that we're relying/hoping on Everton or Tottenham to overtake LFC from a CL spot, whilst we continously languish in 7th frigging place week after week.
I hate you Moyes and your amateur backroom staff for destroying this club in 7 months. Actually, I take that back, I don't hate him for it, it's not his fault he was chosen for the job and being so out of his depth...
...IMO, SAF takes a large slice of the blame. For being power hungry and choosing his successor and for cornering the fans and board into accepting Moyes' mediocrity no matter what because it is not "The United Way" to not give a manager a chance- No matter how badly out of depth the job is for him.
It's a never ending nightmare position the club is in right now.

Re: Our Rivals
I didn't hate Moyes before, he seems like a real grafter. You can see it in his face, he's aged about 10 years in 7 months.
However, the way he comes across in interviews and press conferences 'like it's everybody else's fault, not mine'. You never see him deflect the attention from the players, always citing the performance the reason for our downfall, which is sometimes true. Although, in comparison, you see Mourinho deflecting the attention from his team by criticising West Hams tactics. Yeah, you see managers saying the performance was not good enough, but they never do it repeatedly because far more damage than good comes from it. Moyes points the finger at everyone else but himself 'I don't know what we have to do to win' smh.

Yeah, his post match interviews are cringe worthy. a prime example of a small time manager with a defeatist attitude.

Yes, it is hypothetical, but it still feels like a missed opportunity.

Re: Our Rivals
So, looks like we're conceding our title to our most hated rival.
Handed it over with a whimper, no fight whatsoever. Somehow it intensifies my dismay for Gollum, as it reminds me of the job he's done this season.
The moment SAF retired, LFC are on the verge of the title and are one title behind United. SAF's 20+years of hard work in knocking them off their "effing" perch will be just one title away from them catching up.
You couldn't make these set of circumstances up.

Re: Our Rivals
Annoying as *bleep*, admittedly. Ah, well, even if it was City or Chelsea winning it would still have been pretty shitty. If it's not United, it doesn't really matter who wins it. Best way to get over this season is to win the title ourselves.
I feel the same about 4th, Arsenal or Everton, it doesn't really matter.
On the bright side, the top 4 sides seem vulnerable, we can break back in next season if we get rid of that clown.

Really hits home the reality of things. Who would have thought last season we would be saying this the following year.

Re: Our Rivals
I know, that lowering of expectations
I've changed the title of this thread too. Looking at the first page I got shot down for saying Chelsea look defensively weak under AVB, but I was right in the end My top 4 prediction was a tad embarrassing though. At least, I didn't underestimate Liverpool's squad I guess

Re: Our Rivals
I think we are for sure better off missing Europa league...can just focus on the league and fixing this squad and mentality...will need some significant signings tho this summer
i think this is probably a good year to miss CL if we are gonna be out it one season it's after a World Cup...less football for our players next season hopefully take advantage of some tired teams

Good point about the WC. With the amount we're meant to be spending and the rest the players will be getting we should be getting CL.

Stoke won at Etihad. Big win, great performance from Diouf, ex United player. I also hope that Everton will beat Chelsea, so the gap between United and the title contenders will remain partially tight.
Of course, tomorrow we will support Tottenham against Liverpool.
PS. Chelsea are leading with 2 goals from the third minute.

Re: Our Rivals
Arsenal dropped more points as well Leicester is looking a deal right now. Not a right time to play them certainly. and sad part is we will be facing them soon. No wonder they topped the champship with such a huge difference at the top.
on a positive note only chelski have got 3 out of 3 until now. just 4 points behind the actual no.2 ( man city which are at no.4 right now) after all these fck up in the first 3 games is something great IMO. let them injuries heal. let them new recruits all grace the pitch after 2 weeks. waiting eagerly for that.

Re: Our Rivals
Arsenal look the most likeliest to drop out of the top 4. I said it before, Liverpool's star man is Rodgers not Suarez. I thought they were more likely to drop out, when they looked to replace Suarez with Bony, but they didn't. Arsenal also have Giroud out, and it doesn't look like they will replace him well, if at all. The only reason people don't think Arsenal will drop out is because they somehow make it every year, with all due respect once we get going the competition won't be Spurs and Everton anymore.

Re: Our Rivals
Liverpool looks pretty strong. They found their old winning mentality at Anfield, they have Rodgers and as BB said, he is probably the most important person at Liverpool at the moment. Their midfield area looks superb. I like the way Liverpool plays at the moment.

Idk, if this is true, but this stinks of bad planning. They're so close to having such a complete team as well, but just never seem to get there.

Re: Our Rivals
Awful management and planning. They needed a top class striker, a defensive midfielder and are light in cb positions. Their biggest problem for me is in midfield and up front, they needed a big brute DM to break up play. They didn't address it, and now we are seeing how easily teams rip through their midfield in counter attacks.
And they needed a top class striker, someone clinical. They could have had Remy, didn't either bother to get him. He would have been an upgrade to all their strikers and for a cheap price too, but they stood and watched while Chelsea snatched him in a day or two. They waited till deadline day and an injury to Giroud for them to panic and get Welbeck So basically, if Giroud had gotten injured the week after, they would most likely not gone for Welbeck and would be stuck with Sanogo for 3 months
Piss poor planning.
Now Wenger has put Ozil on the wing, Ozil is lazy, doesn't track back and has put in awful performances instead of having the better option in Cazorla. Arteta is dreadful as a DM and their defending from set pieces is abysmal.
Watching them stand idle and not fix glaring problems in their squad makes me appreciate Woodward and the way the club has finally become modern and spending our money to fix the big issues we have. Silly wages, expensive buys or not, if a team needs to buy and spend big on quality- DO IT!
Arsenal have the money, why they don't choose to fix the issues in their squad and stand idle while other clubs snap up players they could do with....I guess it's Wenger and the board.
