Unproven? Maybe to you, but to people who follow Brasilian football know how good he is. Thiago Silva was also "unproven" by your logic when he came to Milan, look what he turned out to be. The only team I heard that was interested in Dede was Benfica, they offered 2M Euros but Vasco want 4M.

You said he was unproven in Europe, and I compared him to Thiago Silva which by your logic was also unproven when he came to Milan but us people who follow Brasilian football already knew he was a world class defender.
