Re: Newcastle United FC
Perhaps....I wouldn't put it past Levy to go all bidding about 9 million euros for Remy and then giving up the chase.
Who are you guys looking at for CB's?
As shite as your season has been, when Cabaye and Ben Arfa come back and you get Remy, and bring in a good CB...you guys will be right back to where you were a season ago. Maybe even better. Will you guys be in for Debuchy again in the summer?

Debuchy?
I take it you havent seen the news ? He was in the stadium tonight and having his medical tomorrow.
We agreed a fee a few days ago of 5m its a good start but we need A LOT more.

No I haven't seen it. I'm always behind on transfers. If it's not a big deal or relating to Barca/Tottenham, then I probably don't know about it
Well that's a good start for Newcastle. Not sure why Debuchy still wants to come but I assume the good looks of Cabaye didn't hurt. Oh, suddenly this sentence makes a lot of sense
Seems not honestly if i was Debuchy i would ran back to France
Honestly if you guys can snatch a good CB and put your injury problems behind you, I see no reason you can't be where you were a season ago.
BTW Marveaux is a talent. I thought he was young but turns out he's 26 :/ still, he's been great.

Re: Newcastle United FC
Why did Ba have a release clause in the first place, they arent very common place in the PL and why was it so low too? or at the very least why didnt someone do something about it and push it up to that 20-25mil mark once everyone found out about it?
Whatever the reason im not complaining, Ba may not be Drogba but hes a billion times better then Torres and his potential is skyhigh. Bar Zhirkov and Essien Chelsea havent had a players on the sidelines with regular injuries so hopefuly his knee wont be a problem

At 27 years old I'm not sure you can talk about "potential" when referring to a player anymore, especially when they're not defenders.

Re: Newcastle United FC
at 27yo Drogba was in his first season at Chelsea
In the case of Ba though i think it'll be more about finding out how good he really is now that hes got a top quality midfield behind him

Re: Newcastle United FC
I think some would make the argument that Cabaye, Tiote/Anita, and Ben Arfa are pretty high class midfielders themselves.

I agree, imo Newcastle had a better midfield then us last season and to be fair theres a fair argument to say they've got better mids then some of the top four sides. Although once we get Mikel fit and hopefuly see Oscar, Hazard and Mata all starting together and everyone starts to gel again i think Chelsea have got all the tools there to have the best midfeild in the PL

Our plan was to sell him after a year but we didn't expect him to be this successful....
Also about moving the clause up to 20m..... i'm sure we would have done but Ba and his reps have to agree to it and that was never going to happen.
Also ignore the injuries BS, he has missed 17 games in 7 years, and no Senegal didn't qualify for AFCON.
RedOranje wrote:I think some would make the argument that Cabaye, Tiote/Anita, and Ben Arfa are pretty high class midfielders themselves.
Well yes but we don't use them properly, in theory it's a great midfield but Pardew can't see them to use them properly to say the very least so it's pointless.

Nah, we are in advanced negotiations and he wants to join but it's not official.

Re: Newcastle United FC
Newcastle boss Alan Pardew is looking for power and pace as he targets a replacement for striker Demba Ba.
Chelsea triggered the Ā£7m escape clause in Ba contract with Newcastle on Wednesday, and the player is ready to leave St James' park.
Pardew was looking to take positives from the situation, and he believes Ba and former strike-partner Papiss Cisse were not a natural combination.
As a result he is hoping to recruit a player similar to Gabriel Obertan, with Marseille's Loic Remy at the top of his wanted list.
Pardew said: "I would like, if possible, to have a player with real power and pace. Sometimes, we lack a little bit of pace.
"Obertan brings that to the team, but when Gabby is not in the team, that's something I would like to see in the player that comes in because that will help Papiss, and also somebody who is going to threaten at set-plays because it has been a weakness for us.
"But it's easy to say what I would really like - it's what I can get in this window and the options are not numerous. There are only a few players, really, who are available."
He basically just described Remy and Aubameyang our two top targets
Pards maybe cryptic but he ain't getting past me

If only it happened 6 months ago
It's a good start but it's not enough we need at least 2 more before we can get excited.

Re: Newcastle United FC
Pace and Power? Obviously he's going to loan someone then buy Carroll in the summer. Only real option that makes sense given his comments.

Re: Newcastle United FC
It would have Carroll had any pace....
Also Carroll is nothing like Obertan in regards to pace and he's looking at someone similar in regards to raw pace.
The top 3 targets go Remy, Aubameyang and Gouffran.
I know your not serious but i'd thought that i'd clarify
