Post by cyberman Mon Jul 25, 2011 12:33 am

Now, my dislike of Rooney is well known, but i have to give props to his performances as of late..his link play between a below par midfield and Chachadorito, who has seemingly no on the ball skills at all..has been at times, superhuman.
I just read a thread where people considered his comparison v Baggio as a joke, a troll attempt.
This is what I dont get, hes the best player in the 2 best team in the world who helped carry his team to 3 CL finals and 4 epls by the time hes 25, he actually has more CL knockout stage goals than Messi
Why is yesterdays players so untouchable? If Rooney only won 2 titles...and Baggio played for the top 3 in Italy btw...in his career, and choked with a WC pen hed be crucified...
What is it? fans of clubs who arent at the top table anymore, who think their time on top was better and harder to sustain, embelishing their era as some sort of defence mechanism to their 2nd tier status of today?

Baggio played for Inter and Inter is World Champion as we speak, and was European Champion until 2 months ago. ManU is second tier compared to Inter.

amazing when they focus on the 1st half ffs...lets forget the business end then...
Im sure if his contract negotiations and severe personal problems happened in the 2nd half of the year, that would become the stick to beat him with..
Anyway, this isnt really about that

Baggio was one of the best 10s of all time ffs and i did watch him play from 1993 onwards.

As good as a player as Rooney is he is no Baggio and never will be.

Rooney didn't "carry" United to any of their 3 cl finals...lets just get that out of the way right now

anyway the line or arguing that you're referring to is used because its so hard to be disproven

every time rooney has a shit performance everyone and their mothers know about in within 24 hours, and when it happens they can point at you and:

"lol, and you think this shit player is better than Baggio? Lo0oO0o0oL"

Baggio is retired

......and when most players who are considered "great" retire, the good performances are remembered through tinted glasses and the bad performances are ignored

such is life

Baggio ..AC MILAN...51games 12 goals

Inter...41 games 9 goals

seriously, rooney had a poor 4 odd months?

See what I mean?

Rooney and CR 7 were the main 2 reasons we reached the first 2 cl finals and was without doubt the main man last year

its just simple facts

The better question is why are new players even compared to older ones? Let Rooney have his own identity and no he isn't Baggio.

I said i watched him i started watching football when i was 2, i followed him closely when i was 5 which was in 95 and my father had many many tape's of Serie A matches from the 80s to late 90's.

So i know how good was and not just of a few youtube clip's.

What about internationally? The fact hes 1 short of matching baggios entire italian total at 26? in worse teams to boot?
look, this isnt Rooney v Baggio, theres already a thread on it. Its about the idea that comparing one of the best today v someone who didnt exactly dominate world football 2 decades ago as a joke.

V pele etc is understandable, but Baggio? wheres his moments in the very big games?

If Stat's were the be all and end all then Zidane would'nt be considered by alot of people as the greatest ever.

Who follows no 10s when theyre 5?
whered he get the tapes? all ch 4 showed were inter, ac and juve, with fiorentina and parma thrown in ( and those were only mid 90s). and he didnt light it up with AC or Inter.
Unless Moles grandfather hunted bootlegged Brescia and Bologna tapes from Sky Italia..im gonna have to call BS.
Do you know how many tapes of Baggio Mole would need? in a period when few were televised?
The VHS tapes would take up a room all on their own ffs

I actually agree, a lot of people here glorify the past when they didn't even watch those players in live games, or maybe even full games.

I did'nt follow Baggio specifically i watched Italian football ffs and spanish football and epl.

I would have to ask my dad and grandad that question all i know is that he has a massive collection of tapes from over the years.

Majority of these tapes i did'nt watch until i was alot older, but i did start watching those 3 leagues at the age of 3 i obviously did'nt take a great notice of them at that age but over the years i have watched football from 80s and early to mid 90s and late 90s i started to watch them every single week because they were easier to get a hold of due to more coverage.
