Zarate: 'Totti's no phenomenon'

Mauro Zarate attacked Francesco Totti ahead of tonight’s Inter-Roma clash. “He’s not a phenomenon.”

The former Lazio striker moved to the Nerazzurri on transfer deadline day and finds himself in what still feels like a derby. He was also the man who famously said Totti was “finished” as a player last year.

“I said that and the media turned it into a huge scandal, but you say things like that to the papers,” Zarate told the Corriere dello Sport.

“In any case, the phenomenons are those who win the Ballon d’Or... Roma have many good players. I like Bojan Krkic and Pablo Daniel Osvaldo, so we must be careful.

“I had been offered to Roma years ago, but the Giallorossi directors said I wasn’t the player they were looking for, so I ended up at Lazio.”

Zarate left the Biancocelesti following a row with Coach Edy Reja, who he blames for his failure to find success in Rome.

“Reja came to me and said something that I don’t want to repeat, because it’s only right that it remains in the locker room. I’m not like others who go around telling everyone what happens behind closed doors.

“After that meeting, I decided to join another club. I think the only one who didn’t want me at Lazio was Reja. It wasn’t the way I wanted to go.

“Now I am at Inter, the biggest team in the world. Lazio are a great club too, but here you fight for different objectives. I’ve always said I wanted to win everything.”

he has always had a problem with totti.. few years back he reminded totti that he hadnt scored in 8 rome derbies and totti gave him 200 wishes which were the number of goals totti had scored in all competitions..
