He made a mistake when we played against Valencia earlier this year, and he was punished by the referee association for it.

Having watched the full game now I have some thoughts,

As a general comment, physicality is definitely improved. Today but also against Valencia, no drop off in the second half, mostly in control until the very final minute. That was a big issue in the Xavi era, losing a lead because we couldnt keep up with the other team and maintain pressing and structure. Kudos to Flick here, and the new physio team.

I have to compliment Raphinha, and Flick - again. Finally a coach who sees that he is more useful centrally and not as a wide winger glued to the byline and forced in 1v1 situations against the full back all game. Thats not the role for him. He looks totally revitalized and much more comfortable in a free-roam role edging towards the middle. Xavi used him like that sometimes but not enough. And the lungs on this guy.... he's all over the pitch for 90 minutes. Raphinha does not seem to get tired, ever.

Back to Bernal. From the get-go I liked him better than Casado. Might be one of my new favorite players soon. First thing to notice - very smart positioning and anticipation. Incredibly calm and composed on the ball, learned from his mistake and didnt lose the ball once. Picks the rights passes. Doesnt appear all that agile off the ball, unassuming, but that's only an illusion. Once he gets the ball, he glides with it and flows past rival players as if they weren't there. Did Fatporta get lucky again with not signing a pivot? This fat fuck. I cant believe we just got another 17 year-old who seems ready to play in the first team, just like that. He was one of the first ones to get called up by Flick too - that is no coincidence. That said, Casado isnt bad either. If I were to compare them to elite players style-wise Casado is more like Kimmich whereas Bernal reminds me a lot of Busquets.

Mbappe doesnt know how to play the 9 I think... physically hes not the type to get stuck in n bully or even compete with the defenders... actually its the first time I realize Haaland might have the upper hand on him in this regard, I mean if they both end up playing 9 n Mbappe dont adapt he will be outperformed by Haaland who can be much more all round in there... Mbappe always want to make runs n find spaces, very difficult in packed defenses n not having the way Man C open up the spaces for Haaland...

It’s all about timing. They are not connecting by inches. It will come . Naive one he is not playing traditional 9 role. Vinicius and Mbappe are interchanging centre for left. They need time to adapt to each other. Surprising, at least to me is Rodrygo playing really well and staying on right more than last game. Güler also needs time to adjust. They have 70% possession, the goals will come. Expect Modric on around 70 minute mark.

We better step up the second half. It has been very dull with no creativity up the front and a lot of side passing. Kroos is heavily missed and it shows.

Well, ideally he'd be playing as a LW, but we have a luxury problem in that position I really do believe Haaland would've been a much better fit for out tactical needs, and I imagine he'd really thrive with our more direct brand of football, but I like to think that Mbappe will also thrive when we adapt to his inclusion in the team, and we hopefully manage to bring in a competent playmaker.
