Btw, you keep putting down Bilbao as a nothing club. Do you realize Athletic is the 3rd most successful liga club in all time rankings behind only RMad and Barca! And take a look at number of trophies if you exclude the Xavi / Iniesta years (2002 - 2015).

I don't know why you're being so defensive, i understand you don't want Nico to join Barca but your objectivity and judgement is clearly clouded

If Athletic is a nothing club it'll take just one visit to the city and into the heart of San Mames to understand their lore and atmosphere that no English club has in their entire stadium.

It not just the club Hala, it’s a cultural loyalty, mostly fan based. Keep in mind, they are not a small club at all and they only have Basque players. It’s actually quite remarkable. What surprises me about this given they just renewed him, why didn’t they substantially increase the exit clause.

He can always return to Bilbao later but choosing to stay now will only hinder his career. Next year the asking price will be 100m and no-one will go for it

You guys just don’t understand the culture. And take a look back, Bilbao is not a small club.

I respect the culture and from one side its pretty cool to have and cultivate that but from the other pov its what Hala said, its pretty limiting for a player who's potential is far beyond what the club can offer. A guy like Inaki could've had a more accomplished career in general looking back, there is clearly a line at clubs like Bilbao/Villarreal/Betis/Sevilla you aren't able to cross as a player at a certain point of development

Bilbao has a past as big as Barca and Atletico. They have been as big as Juve, Milan and Inter. They certainly have a better record than the likes of Villareal, Sevilla or Betis.

You keep referring to them as a nothing club! They have been slowly building up their talent and financial capability.


They not only resigned Nico, they also did it to retain Unai Simon and Vivian. They want to keep their young talent in order to keep improving and be competitive, as would any good club. What you said about Nico having potential that is beyond what club can offer, could easily be said about Yamal with Barca, the broken down caboose!
