Julian Alvarez Appreciation Thread
This kid deserves his own hype thread. He was lighting it up in Argentina in the last two years but he’s brought that form to the biggest stage too. He’s deputized well when Haaland’s been injured and is capable of playing with him. He’s done more for Argentina in two games than Aguero has in 15 years.
Great finishing, can strike the ball with either foot, versatile, great passing and link up for a striker, and he runs his socks off and presses like Tevez on steroids. What a signing.

I really like what I've seen from him. Even when he doesn't have a great game, his work ethic is so damn good. He's still very young. Man City might have a gem on their hands

Was always a good talent and was playing better before joining City. He lost confidence after joining City, but he is improving that aspect with the NT.

Been great this season. "Undroppable" according to Pep (so of course he will be dropped now). Brace in europe.

He did say something similar about Foden once, and he was dropped shortly after

Julian Alvarez at #7 in Ballon d'Or (eligible after 1995) is the highest Argentine position not named Messi, or Di Stefano. In Fifa Player of the Year (1991) #7 is the 5th best result after Messi, Batistuta and Veron.
Fifa Player of the Year (1991)
3th Batistuta 1999
4th Batistuta 2000
5th Batistuta 1998
6th Veron 2001
7th Alvarez 2022
Fifa Player of the Year (1991)
3th Batistuta 1999
4th Batistuta 2000
5th Batistuta 1998
6th Veron 2001
7th Alvarez 2022

Alvarez won a treble and the WC and was instrumental alongside Messi in that campaign

Re: Julian Alvarez Appreciation Thread
he was "one of the other players" instrumental, not Robin to Batman sidekick instrumental...
and then in the treble for City he wasn't as key as Haaland, Rodri, KdB, Silva, Gundagon or Stones
his 2022 WC stats:
4 goals, 0 assists
Saka's: 3 goals, 1 assist
his overall stats from last season all competitions:
17 goals, 5 assists
Saka just in the PL alone:
14 goals, 11 assists

Re: Julian Alvarez Appreciation Thread
Alvarez wasnt necessarily key in City's treble but he did contribute and the trophies are also his. And he was very in sync with Messi in the WC and quite instrumental in my opinion
So Saka's stats are comparable (25 g/a vs 22 g/a) but Saka has 0 trophies and those do matter as far as Balon Dor is concerned.

Don't know what you're talking about tbh, I've never said anything that isn't true.farfan wrote:Harmonica wrote:Julian Alvarez at #7 in Ballon d'Or (eligible after 1995) is the highest Argentine position not named Messi, or Di Stefano. Have you changed? The old Harmonica would've started a statistical smear campaign against Alvarez to undermine his contribution to Argentina's triumph and make it seem like it was a herculean carry job by Messi and Messi alone
