DFB-Pokal 20/21 - German Cup
First round this weekend
Tonight already our dear Hertha BSC embarrassed herself with a 4-5 defeat against Eintracht Braunschweig, freshly promoted to 2nd BuLi from 3rd. It's amazing how the biggest club from Berlin could be so continually incapable of "going to Berlin"

Sadly, because of Corona and the uncertainty about fans allowed into the stadia, many lower division teams have given away their right to host the games as home games, to the big clubs they're facing. (which is why it says 'Spielort:...' - place of game.. after some fixtures)
Usually one of the great things about early Pokal rounds is all those first division teams having to go to these tiny stadia and dressing rooms.
Among them, also the VSG Altglienicke, the winner of the Berlin cup and thus the Berlin lower divisions representative in the Pokal, has given away their home right to Köln, no possibility to watch them play Köln in Berlin.
Bayern's first round fixture has been postponed due to the CL final participation.
Also, let me direct your attention towards the club named SV Todesfelde.
Now, I have no idea who this club is and where this village/town is, but the name means literally "Field of Death" lmao. Osnabrück players should be careful.
Most high profile games are Nürnberg-Leipzig, Duisburg-Dortmund, and above all Dynamo Dresden vs the Hamburger SV
Fingers crossed for early exits of Schalke, HSV, and Leipzig. BVB, I don't see an upset there.

5-0 at the moment
Reus with thee quickest goal after being subbed on, 3 seconds on the pitch
Reinier, the latest next Neymar on loan from Real, now on. Surely though he should aspire to play for AS Monaco.

Haaland taken off. Hasn’t scored and has barely been involved in the play. Beautiful freekick from Thorgan, though.

Dortmund are playing some attractive football, but this is a pretty classic match between a league title challenger and a cup minnow

Yeah, I don’t think it made all that much of a difference to the proceedings, though. Dortmund controlled the match well from start to finish. 3 of the goals had already been scored in the first half.

At least Pauli did better than the HSV... I'm not crying, it's just allergies.

Viva: I see that Leo Østigård recently returned to Brighton from St Pauli. What's your assessment of him? Assuming you saw him play. I've been told that he's quite talented, but I've never actually seen him play. The reason I ask is because we're in need of some young blood at right back on my national team, and if he's as good as some people say he is, then he would slot in perfectly there. Only 20 years old, though. I imagine he's a bit rough around the edges.

Results from Sunday and Monday
1. FC Kaiserslautern - Jahn Regensburg 3-4
1. FC Schweinfurt - FC Schalke 04 cancelled
Hansa Rostock - VfB Stuttgart 0-1
Eintracht Norderstedt - Bayer Leverkusen 0-7
TSV Steinbach Haiger - SV Sandhausen 1-2
FC Rielasingen-Arlen - Holstein Kiel 1-7
SV Elversberg - FC St. Pauli 4-2

Dynamo Dresden - Hamburger SV 4-1
Rot-Weiss Essen - Arminia Bielefeld 1-0
Würzburger Kickers - Hannover 96 2-3
MSV Duisburg - Borussia Dortmund 0-5
Upsets on Sunday were Heidenheim (who only missed promotion to Bundesliga after a playoff loss to Werder) losing out to 3rd division Wiesbaden, and as Viva mentoned 4th division village club Elversberg kicking out Pauli.
On Monday, the mighty HSV embarrassed themselves against freshly relegated to 3rd division Dynamo Dresden, while 4th division Rot-Weiß Essen (RWO's nemesis) kicked out Bielefeld, newest Bundesligist.
5th division Düren vs Bayern still to play, Schalke game vs Schweinfurt got canceled as the Bavarian football federation couldn't figure out whom of their teams actually qualified for the DFB-Cup amid CoVid confusion, with up-and-coming München club Türkgücü challenging Schweinfurt participation successfully IN COURT. Don't ask me what happened exactly I couldn't understand it on superficial reading.

TBH I haven't seen much of him because this season I got to see very little matches live, 2nd flight often happens when I'm at work sadly, but what from the few things I've seen and read, I would've preferred we keep him, but that was never an option. But all in all we had a very hit and miss season so it's tough to say anything about any player of ours right now...
