Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
Actually the ref was well known pro barca ref Hernandez Hernandez, who made plenty of non calls against Madrid in important matches like the Clasico and away loss at Levante.
Also, gonna need Casemiro and Ramos to roughen up Puig in the next clasico

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
Is it too early to congratulate us? In all seriousness, these days I'm not as wary as before about the rivals. When the first goal went in today I was jus like "men barca wont win this". On the other hand, our defense is actually impressing me for the first time in years

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
He really isn't. You should understand for the way Barcelona were playing he is more suited than Griezmann even though they are not like for like (not playing the same position as Riqui is a central midfielder).Mr Nick09 wrote:And riqui Puig is another overhyped back passer, benching Griezmann for players like that is a disgrace.
In fact Griezmann plays back passes more often when there is a good opportunity up front. He lacks creativity and is absolutely useless playing against a tight defence save for a backheel flick or two. In contrast you can't expect a 20 year old who has just broken into the first team to boss Atlético, even though he had Partey in his pocket for the majority of the match.
A future star.
Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
I switched off the game after they replayed the first penalty for Atlético. Can't believe they actually helped us out, I really didn't think they had it in them.
Thank you, Atlético. I never thought I would one day utter those words to you.

Puig was one of the better players today. He's so small though. He goes flying after each challenge.
Griezmann has been the biggest transfer flop this season. Can't say I didn't see it coming though. Most sensible fans noted how his profile wasn't needed at Barca.

Was the 2nd penalty enough to merit a penalty? I mean, most of it was tripping himself.

If VAR tells the ref to retake a penalty because Ter Stegen is 2 cms from the line with his foot, yeah, it means something

The penalty Barca got was soft as f so that makes it 2-1 for Refdrid. Perez is a genius, he ordered that to take people off the scent.

Well its good to see ppl realize just how corrupt it is and how much Flo has influence on the refs, its been like this forever, so nothing new to us actually lol.

Right. Instead of spending money on dorks like Griezmann and Coutinho and walking glass bones like Dembele, Perez forwards funds to refs. Smart investment. The man is the epitome of the term "businessman"

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
Since the restart, I've seen Messi escape two red cards, Barca get a soft pen, and a clear pen that Real Madrid did not get against Espanyol.
My observation as a neutral is that La Liga refs are quite shit and on average they tend to favor both Madrid and Barca over smaller teams. Not necessarily because of cORRuptIOn or pAYcHeque$ but because of pressure. For instance there will be a massive shitstorm if Messi gets wrongly sent off or Madrid goes 2nd in the table because of penalties not given.

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
I think we've had quite a lot of calls go against us, over the past few years. I don't know why our section doesn't complain about it more often. Our Barca section seems to make a big deal out of every single call that goes against them. It happens. You didn't hear us crying when CR got sent off for lightly pushing a guy in the back, when Messi was given absolutely no consequence for pushing a guy to the ground during that very same week. I imagine there would be a lot more hysteria in the general section, had it been the other way around.

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
According to catalan newspapers it's more than just penalty calls.
Their headline today is: "Two measuring sticks"
Sergio Ramos: 46 fouls, 8 yellow cards
Pique: 30 fouls, 14 yellow cards
Yellow cards this season
Barca 83 - 61 Madrid
And penalties:
In favor/against
Barca 6/7
Madrid 7/2

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
As a Madrid fan, complaining about ref decisions is useless as not only do refs give the team the benefit of the doubt on numerous occasions in La Liga, just as importantly, the club has the player personnel to win most of their matches.
Playing victim when your team can spend upwards of 100 million on a player is pretty shitty when you think about it.

Re: La Liga 19/20 - The new Era
I know Pique has a negative rep in Spain and all but the yellow card vs foul argument is shit unless someone has actually gone through the pains of putting together each of their fouls and comparing the respective plays (and the contexts).
My initial impression after reading that stat is that Pique has more yellow cards because he has to commit more tactical fouls. Barca plays higher up the pitch than Madrid and has a very unathletic team which probably leads to him fouling from more dangerous situations. Is there a heat map for their respective foul locations? That would help put the comparison in a better perspective. Although you'd still need to see the context of the game. Home vs away, scoreline, and the referee are all contributing factors too.
