Re: Classic game watchalongs
The most shiny Manchester United of Ferguson era ( at the end it'll be treble) vs the worst Juve 90s years
Weird year for Bianconeri, the Lippi cycle is finished and they'll realized it as the months go by. Sliding door is the serious Del Piero injury at Udine, he 'll have missing the whole year after it and it will be the real ' watershed ' of his career . Yes, he 'll continue to be a great player but the Del Piero before Udine 98... was of higher level and you 've not seen again that same player ( I mean, that Del Piero was really a Balon D'Or player).
So Juve precipitates on a crisis, January market don't help it but rather they score a scrub player called Esnaider in place of Del Piero ... and at the end Lippi got sacked ( sacks are rare in Juve story) after a Juve-Parma 2-4 where Hernan Crespo plays an insane match.
At his place Ancelotti.
Juve continues to play a bad league and it focuses on CL (after 3 finals in a row)
United under Ferguson are a mature squad, but they must delete that surprisingly unsucessful previous year, where they 've lost Premier League against Arsenal( the first Wenger title, led by Overmars and Bergkamp) and got knocked by Monaco after a double tie, missing so an announced semi-final against Juve...
Postponed of a year.
It's the 98-99 semi-final.
United have knocked out Inter to quarter. Inter are in a similar situation than Juve. Their season was even more tragic. Inter begun the league as very very favorite to win it ( everyone think Inter should have it deserved in 97-98... ..... and moreover they've made an excellent - on paper . - market on paper. Adding Roberto Baggio to Ronaldo. How could they lose it ? In my youth naivety I was so convinced to win it. Well, Inter 'll change 4 managers that year and that's enough to say how much it was a negative year) , they sucked in league but they play a very good CL, beating also the Real Madrid ( winner on previous year) because of an amazing Roberto Baggio. So Inter win the group, and they have to face United exactly.
United win it 2-0 at Old Trafford, they suffer much at San Siro but at the end it's 1-1.
So ok, Manchester- Juve.
On paper United should be favorite , if we consider the different leagues played by both clubs that year.
But Champions League is another thing.
It's a ugly match, Juve score on 25', goal by Inter legend Antonio Conte . This allows them to play a very defensive game, so as to get a very precious 0-1
It's going to work ... but Giggs score the tie on 92'.
It'll be one of most important goals scored by Welsh in his career.
Still a good result for Juve though. Return match begins in the best way . Juve are even on 2-0. Everything seems destined towards the 4th final in a row for Juve.
But United give a tast of what we 're going to see in final and they cath up Juve ... with an incredible 2-3
It will be the begin of the glory for United and the definitive nightmare season for Juve
Still I remind to have made fun of my neighbour , present at the stadium for that match, and he hacn't talked to me for some weeks.

yeah , he got married with Ramazzotti ( a huge Juve fan, even though he is from Roma lol ) in the previous year.
A stunningly beautiful woman , it was in 1999 and it's still in 2020.

I can't see Juve to bottle this tbh ....
Very expert team, they play at home, this Beckham is great though, I had noticed it also against Inter, destroyed Colonnese
Balon d'or if United win Champions ?

Re: Classic game watchalongs
Is Schmeichel the best goalkeeper in the world by far?
I don't buy the hype about Chilavert, merchant hyped for goals scored (by him). But well I care just if GK don't concede goals.
Who others ? Kopke is so done and we've seen it against Iugoslavia.
Illgner and Hesp ? pls
I am satisfied about Pagliuca , but the Danish looks like another level than other .
I mean, even Peruzzi ( great I must admitt it) has incredibly flopped on Keane goal now...
