I'm not really sure about why that clip proves he's shit at defense

None of those are his fault. There were other instances where he was actually at fault. This is just LeBron resting energy for offence by guarding the least dangerous player on the opposite team.

We're getting killed from a coaching standpoint and because the bench has given up. Not because of LeBron's defense.

Please actually look at the play instead of him standing still.


The three plays in the clip:
1st play. His man doesn't even touch the ball and Grizzlies manage to break up the play on the opposite side of LeBron.

2nd play. He consumes energy and manages to stop the shot, but they score because Chandler doesn't box out his man and chooses to go for the block instead.

3rd play wasn't an individual mistake. The chemistry and communication between him and Ingram was off. Ingram was too slow to react to the three point shooter and LeBron went after him and tried to switch, but Ingram also went after the same man. That's a scheme, coaching and communication mistake.

The worst play was him leaving open Caboclo for the three in the fourth when we needed a stop. Caboclo is 28% for three, so it might've been a tactic decision by the team. Or a miscommunication. Anyway, that was a terrible play. Should defend the 3 at all times when you need to reduce the deficit.

Agreed clips don't but the reality does, dude hasn't played consistent defense since leaving Miami.

That's terrible, it's like he is trying hard to NOT defend. I've seen similar videos about James Harden, who was completely passive in defence. But as a PG who scores a lot his role in the paint isn't the same, they have other players who defend well.

To be honest, i am not hipster on purpose, but LeBron is not even top 10 in my favourite players. Although he's probably still the best so i respect himself and his career.

I agree, he's been conserving his energy a lot to keep his offensive level. Happens to all perimeter players at that same point. Also happened with Kobe when he turned 31-32. Before that he was incredible.

Those clips show absolutely nothing wrong though. There were much more telling clips from the game.

The only thing this video has proven to me is how little that twitter user actually knows about basketball.

On january 9th vs Utah Jazz, Evan Fournier had a shit performance 37 minutes 1 point (i remember i complained about it)

In the highlights of this match you can see how he does absolutely nothing, both in offence and defence it's quite funny

I might be able to accept the "LeBron takes it easy in defence to save energy for offence" argument if he actually played high-intensity offence, but he doesn't. The guy has become the biggest black hole in defence in the league and isn't the best player offensively in the league any longer, either.

(and to be clear, I'm not talking about those clips in the tweet, the handful of times I've watched a Lakers game this season it's always the same story: LeBron standing still near the rim, no matter where his guy is).

He was incredible before the injury, and suggesting otherwise is just incredibly ignorant.

He's not even the worst defender on his own team. Goes to show what you've "watched" from the Lakers.

I've "watched" about half a dozen Lakers games this season and LeBron's "defending" is a joke every time.

Some plays are set for a specific guy, especially inbound plays. But most just set guys in motion and space out the floor, and players can pull the trigger or deviate as they see fit. Rondos just being a dick

I think Lebron has everyone spoiled.
I saw one play that was on him, the rest was help D.
Your main offensive weapon isn't suppose to expend so much energy on D. Lebron has, and now people expect it from him.
Hes 34, weighs 270 lbs, has played an obscene amount of games between 8 straight finals and international play, AND he brings the ball down for his team.
