Say what you will about Lucas but he'd never play like he dgaf. He should be a starter until we buy a better player. Oh and I hope Lope and Solari are happy with themselves for ostracising Llorente who is the ONLY natural back up we havd to Casemiro. If Solari wants to be half as successful as ZZ wad, he needs to make the tough decisions. Llorente needs to play when Casemiro is unavailable, Modric needs to sit, Asensio needs to sit, Bale needs to sit etc. Until he makes the tough but necessary changes we'll still take a step forward and two backwards like we have done all season. Oh and *slow clap* for leaving Mariano at home rofl

We created many chances against Roma but could've conceded 4. attacking wise that was our best performance but still shaky at the back.

Pastore and Ante Coric were their only injuries. They were playing a dangerously high line, so it wasn't surprising that they tested our defence on a few occasions. Unfortunately for them, they were absolutely atrocious defensively. We should've scored a lot more, but we really played some fantastic football, nonetheless. I brought up the issue of our players looking unmotivated, earlier in the season. Someone on here got upset and pointed to our recent CL success, assumingly as an explanation for why that couldn't be true hmm

That made absolutely no sense to me, but I suppose it's good that we all have different perspectives.

I really don't think we can blame the coach when we have seen 3 coaches in a row ignore Llorente. There is only one common factor in that situation- Llorente.

Personally, I didn't see enough quality from him when he was on loan like everyone else in this forum did. I even remember debating with hala back then.

For his own sake he should leave ASAP. January.

I didn't like Llorente at all in the past... but I thought he had taken a step forward when i watched him in preseason.

But as you said, there must be something if he's not getting a sniff on his 3rd coach now.

My big issue with both Lope and now Scolari is that they want to have their cake and eat it too. What I mean by that is that they have a preferred 11 yet aren't adapting tactics to fit those 11... If you're playing Ceballos as a holding mid, then Carvajal has to start (better defender than O----a by a mile) and Vasquez needs to play to protect defensively.

If you're going to have a full out attacking team with little thought for defense... then you better attack with a high press. But if you're going to play a normal game or sit back, then you better put together a solid defensive lineup.

the issue with a high press is that you're doing it with a bunch of people who've had mileage on their legs, even if the manager insists on it, its a very tiring plan to execute every week. they did it in the first 1 or 2 games of the season, but at age 29-30, it just becomes force of habit to go back to what you're familiar with. kroos and modric don't have the stamina to do that week in week out. marcelo isn't a big fan of marking. like overall, if you assess our players individually, how many do you think can execute that kind of play - pressuring high , over the course of two months, let alone a season?

Exactly... so that being the case tito, you can't play without a DM and two attacking fullbacks... with 3 strikers in front of them.

There has to be protection because we're not going to possess the ball 60% of the time AND our opponent is going to spend a lot of time in our half.

Our managers have to work with what we have and devise the proper tactics. They can't have a preconceived idea and then force the players into roles. We're either too old and entitled... or too young and inexperienced. Not very adaptable.

yup, at the beginning of the season i said, if we can't get at least 30 plus goals from our front 2 (in the league alone ) , then instead of working on possession and all that silky stuff, we should work on being a defensive team, conceding as little as possible and holding unto one goal leads. which personnel wise, once again, even that is unrealistic

next season, more than ever, we would need an actual manager, for the rebuilding process. if it was a case of guys not playing to their potential or an ego driven locker room, a caretaker would have sufficed, but now we need someone who has a list of personnel to fit what he wants....we've microwaved this pizza way too much and too often. best to just order a new one in the summer

Ramos and Marcelo aren't equipped to sit back consistently. A big game here and there... sure (not even sure Marcelo can do that). But over a whole season? No way.

Same with Kroos. He's useless if his team isn't controlling things.

what rubbish asensio said out of his own mouth he is blameless in the team struggles and it the vertain faults, so that the right mentality too? At this rate, can we criticize Zizou for playing so defensively? He saw this coming from a mile away. It's actually amazing what he's done with this team. I think a few of our players are definitely overrated, particularly last season where they were coasting games with lethargic performances.

i think bayern and PSG in the CL were good examples. Against Barca i think he did a good job last year. The players let him down in that game. Carvajal of all people pulled a suarez and got a red for no reason

The Madrid section used to be great. I had countless disagreements with many posters, but I have always enjoyed debating with them because they always put forth solid arguments and quality posts.

Lately, I have noticed that we have been overrun by three Benzema fanboys and two other delusional posters who brought the overall quality of the section down and polluted the content with their nonsense.

I wish GL were more strict with these people. They contribute with nothing. They are just here to defend Benzema or tell us that we're spoiled because we think the club should've spent more and we don't stand for mediocrity.

It's sad, but I guess every section has its toxic posters. But I would be lying if I said that I don't miss how we were before. oh well...

I was also a massive Benz fan DoC... but he's not up to par for 3 seasons now.

I honestly don't blame him. If Real Madrid pays you and asks you to start every game, what r u gonna do... say no? And I honestly felt he was the perfect complement to CR. BUT, when CR started to get old and couldn't sustain his pace for a full season, we needed more of a real CF. Without CR, we need a killer CF. He hasn't stepped up AT ALL. That's disappointing. But it's up to the club to have a backup plan AND to improve the squad. Benzema will never bench himself (nor should he).

My real venom this season is for the club. We lose CR and replace him with Mariano. Our key signing was Courtois. We took gambles with.... Benzema, Bale, Ceballos, Asensio, Ordiozola, Mariano, Reguilon, Llorente, Vallejo, etc. Not to mention Lope and now Solari.

When you look at it, we gambled with half the squad and the other half is over 30 lol AND our managers have neither top club managing experience nor football pedigree to speak of.

What a disaster.

Unpopular opinion but Benz is not the biggest "fault" here. Reasons are that he was never going to replace CR's goals. He was never that player. Blame is at Flo, for allowing Ronaldo to leave without a proper replacement but meanwhile he doesn't let Modric leave when the guy is dust at this moment.

He is actually having a decent season compared to his standards. Last season was a catastrophe but he has 10 goals in 19 apps so far. That's acceptable. Let's not pretend it's not.
