Kinda naive from Japan to not guard better against a counter attack in the end there. But credit to them for pushing Belgium to the edge. A superb half of football.

Game of the tournament so far, absolutely amazing stuff.
I came into the game rooting against Japan after what they did against Poland but you have to feel for them now. They played well and it's extremely cruel to have lost the way they did.
Belgium gonna beat Brazil now imo

the quality of this world cup comes from the lack of quality from any teams.

I rated Martinez but after this game I definitely dont... totally outdone by Japan tactically, so naive? At least he threw on the Felliani and realised Carrassco was being useless the whole. He needs to counter Brazil much better than he done this game thats for sure.

Chadli should start ahead of Carrasco. He's more suited for that nonsense wingback position that Martinez is trying to force on his wingers.

Yeah lol, Belgium only played the likes of Panama and Tunisia, they've not proven anything yet. Brasil is going to roflstomp them.

They were absolutely gassed mentally and physically. ET would have been a Belgium win.
I applaud the Japanese balls to recognize that and go for the jugular at the death. A bad cross ultimately let them down.

Re: WC 2018 | Round of 16 | Belgium Vs Japan
From the replay I saw, Japan had 5 men in the box, Honda taking the corner. It wasn't a ridiculous amount (like 7 or 8 ). Especially given how many players Belgium had defending.
The mistake was more that the players didn't have the situational awareness they should have. 5 players up for the corner isn't bad, but it is when every single one of them run into the box trying to get a head on it. Should have had 3 players go for a header, two players stay around the top of the box in case of a rebound/header out of the Belgium box or in case Courtois grabbed it (as he did).
Even one player staying outside the box plus removing the useless short corner option would have prevented it. They were 3vLukaku at the back. Add two more players already situated for a Belgium counter and it would have been fine.
Poor situational awareness by the players

Not a chance in hell that Belgium with their stupid formation of De Bruyne in 2 man CM with Witsel beat Brazil.
They'll be running off the back of him all day.

I think at the end of the game Japan realised that there was no way they'd make it through extra time so they tried everything the could to somehow win it in regular time.

Japan should have parked the bus when they were up 2. They were capable of stifling Belgium.
