Both teams should have scored by now.

Like to watch Serbia, they have some nice footballers but i do wonder if an inability to change speeds will be their undoing. They look a bit one paced so far.

Can see why SMS is so highly regarded tbh, someone is going to pay an obscene amount for him. Midfielders with that size and skill don't come along very often.

Serbia starting XI isn't a team with much speed... where is the CSKA legend Zoran Tosic ?

Re: World Cup (2018) - Group E (Brazil, Serbia, Costa Rica, Switzerland)
well that's the problem, are you paying for his size and technique? or for what he does on the pitch and how he can fit into your team?Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:Can see why SMS is so highly regarded tbh, someone is going to pay an obscene amount for him. i hope my team is not caught making that mistake. Because to me he would be difficult to fit in many formations, he is a weird player tactically.

Looks good when he gets on the ball, but Serbia are playing through Tadic a lot more seemingly.

Re: World Cup (2018) - Group E (Brazil, Serbia, Costa Rica, Switzerland)
He fits in Juve midfield for example, he is a box-to-box, simple as that.
SERGEJ covers a lot of ground, he is their main creator and finisher. As you can see he is Serbia's target man and his talent justifies this.
At Lazio and Serbia many players are defensive minded, that's why Sergej gets the offensive role.

but he has superior technique, that's a given, that's what shows. but for an AM, he is basically not involved in thebuild up, and as soon as Serbia has the ball, he goes into the box like a CF. it's most likely their tactic anyway

They probably want him as close to Mitrovic as possible, i know from experience that he needs as many players around him as much as possible.
It does make the build up a bit disjointed though i'll give you that.

BBC also confirms this
Costa Rica 0-0 Serbia
Crikey what an effort. Sergej Milinkovic-Savic with exemplary technique to execute an overhead kick from Branislav Ivanovic's cross.
Keylor Navas superbly saves but there's an added twist. The offside flag is up but Milinkovic-Savic WAS ON.
Another VAR case if that had gone in perhaps?

Re: World Cup (2018) - Group E (Brazil, Serbia, Costa Rica, Switzerland)
he is not doing anything box to box in this game. And when i watched him for Lazio, he wasnt either, he walks, he doesnt really work hard to defend.Warrior wrote:He fits in Juve midfield for example, he is a box-to-box, simple as that.

the term box-to-box is thrown around nowadays when people dont know how to define a midfield.
SMS is an attacking midfielder, not a playmaker, but he is exactly what Delle Ali is for Tottenham. this is what Pogba is trying to be but Mourinho dont let him lol

Re: World Cup (2018) - Group E (Brazil, Serbia, Costa Rica, Switzerland)
We need Kostic subbed in on the left wing, Ljajic is an AM stuck on the LW, no pace on the wings which is needed against a team like Costa Rica. SMS needs to come back to midfield more to receive the ball, he's too isolated up front. If we can be more calm on the ball we should be able to create more chances.

Re: World Cup (2018) - Group E (Brazil, Serbia, Costa Rica, Switzerland)
Sergej is asked to do a lot for Lazio, they also have two more defensive midfielders next to him in Lucas and Parolo, who allow him more freedom going forward, not indifferent from Serbia today where he is legit in an attacking role, or 2015-16 Pogba with Marchisio and Khedira
Anyways, nick has a point. His success will be determined how his next club utilizes his talent. In my opinion, if you're paying upwards of 80M for a player, you probably have an idea of how you want him to operate. The only glaring example of the opposite is Pogba to United (@firenze), a couple years later and he has regressed, been subject of criticism and United is still not getting the best out of him
It's also like Dybala at Juventus, who I feel could suffer if his next club is not the right one and he'll find no bigger club than Juventus that will allow him such freedom on the field
