I don't speak Spanish, but the English translation I'm seeing is: Argentina players gathered for a meeting & asked for Jorge Sampaoli to be removed as manager before match against Nigeria.
If this is accurate then

Can't decide which results I'd like from Iceland v Nigeria.
If Iceland win, it would put Argentina in a really bad spot.
If Nigeria win, it would set up a delicious Arg v Nig.

di Maria-Dybala-Messi
Di maria is finished, and who's gonna press and track back from those players? Messi and dybala certainly not you cant play with 3-4 attackers with no work rate in the modern game because you're sacrificing the defensive part of the game which is really important now, it works in Barcelona because other forwards will run marathons for Messi, Dybala won't do that
They desperately need to win, I think it's worth to take the risk against Nigeria.....

Think that meeting is made up. None of the argentine media is picking up on it.

Re: World Cup (2018) - Group D (Argentina, Croatia, Iceland, Nigeria)
Hands down the worst Argentine team ever. Worse than the one with Maradona as coach.
I excepted us to be shit. The whole nation expected us to be shit. But last night was something else.
Let's remind ourselves that our team has been very poor in recent years with regards to youth development. We used to do well consistently in youth competitions and Olympics. Not anymore. The last talent to have come out of our country is Leandro Paredes, whom half of you might not have even heard of.
Our FA is a joke. We keep changing coaches with different styles and mentalities. The last OK coaches we have had have been Batista and Sabella. The rest have been utter disasters. Is Sampaoli a bad coach? No, he isn't. But he can only play one way. With these group of players, we can't play to his style and he isn't willing to change. We literally haven't created a single clear cut chance under him that hasn't involved Messi!
The mentality of the team is poor. Just watch the goals we concede. The third goal was the epitome of it all. It's like the players didn't even give a *bleep*. The choice of captaincy is also terrible. Oh yeah let's choose the quietest, least charismatic player as the captain! When your players are in trouble they look up to their captain. What is Messi going to say to them?
Our players are just poor. I don't even know why the world considers Argentina a top team. Just look at our starting line-up ffs. We have Messi and Agüero and that's it. The rest are overpaid piles of crap with no pride. Our goalkeepers and defence has been poor for years, our midfield nothing to boast about (and insult to injury is that the coach doesn't even play the best ones). Sure we have top attackers but they can't bail the team out when they get no service.
Sampaoli has got it all wrong since he took over. We play so predictable and poorly. We want everything to go through Messi but we can't cause our players are not good enough in bringing the ball out from the back at all. Any coach with some brain would think to himself and change plans. Bring a couple of strikers and start hoofing the ball to them. Create some havoc and fear in the opposition. Try to win second balls in the final third. But no, let's stick to Plan A which hasn't worked for us for 12 matches under him. Sub Agüero off for Higuaín. I would sack Sampaoli right now if I were Tapia, trying to salvage something, even if it is some pride, from our last match.

Can't decide if I would rather be knocked out by iceland, Nigeria or France. Which would maximize embarrassment?

The maximum embarrassment would be losing to Nigeria, while Iceland gets a result with Croatia that would have allowed progression should you have beaten Nigeria

this is good. I wonder if it will en good enough to clean house at the AFA though. I might take a 5-0 defeat to France too.Luca wrote:BarrileteCosmico wrote:Can't decide if I would rather be knocked out by iceland, Nigeria or France. Which would maximize embarrassment?

We can beat Nigeria by 2 goals if we play properly. They are definitely the worst team in this group.
Here is hoping they manage to not lose vs Iceland.

I agree, Iceland-Croatia has a draw written all over it. But I'm almost 100% sure Argentina will tie/lose to Nigeria.

Sampaoli still head coach as of today ... Don't think they will fire him before an important game.
