Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
EU 120m + 40m in bonuses
Thoughts? What's his natural position? Where does he fit in best?

Re: Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
Left wing or 10 i think. I assume the middle is non starter with Messi.
R Barca changing to a 4231?

Re: Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
He has played left CAM in a 4-3-3 for Klopp recently so I guess he's meant as a pretty striaghtforward Iniesta successor

Re: Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
I'm also leaning towards the CAM/Iniesta replacement role. Not sure how ideal he is for it, but then again I doubt we'll be going back to the Xaviesta tiki-taka in the near future.
It'll be interesting to see what happens in big matches when both Iniesta and Coutinho are fit.

Re: Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
Sorry, but it's really easy. He plays in Iniesta's position in 4-3-3 and LM in 4-4-2.
If we ever played with a CAM it would be Messi.

Seriously that money what the f***...
But upgrades to the midfield were sorely needed.
I think he will be Rocketic version 2: prolific scorer but not much help in build up. Which is fine given that we are now a 442 club under Valverde.

He isn’t benching Iniesta, unless we have a champions league match coming up and they want keep Iniesta fresh.
Dembele is coming off the bench until Iniesta retires.

Re: Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
He looked very natural, like he was already a part of the team. Now i know it was against Espanyol who were not very threatening, but in general they were keeping things tight. Nice first display

VALVERDE: "We have a lot of hopes for @Phil_Coutinho. He can be very good for our style of play. His self-confidence, dribbling, ability to escape defenders, passing around the area and the danger he poses can all help us."
World-class player. I'm really excited to see our midfield improve significantly due to his presence.

Re: Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
I too am excited about his play.
It's so great to again see that kind of first touch and close control in the midfield.
Years of Gomes, Rafinha, Turan, Denis Suarez (as much as I like him), kind of made me forget what elite technique looks like.
Hope he lives up to this showing. Really excited.

Re: Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
I think he is a wonderful player but I am still not sure where he should play.
He has the skill and the technique to play midfield but I doubt Busquets, Rakitic , Coutinho will be solid enough against the elite sides. It is light weight and we may get run over just like we did against Roma. For that to work, we need better tactics and a game which will protect such a light midfield.
On the other hand, he has shown that he is a more than capable LW. He can beat his man, combine well with the LB, is inventive with his passes and has the goals in him.
It is a problem but a good one to have.

Re: Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
Honestly all he does is dribble and look to shoot from outside the box. Rightfully benched by Dembele.
Funny most of us thought Dembele would never play when Coutinho joined.

Re: Philippe Coutinho: The Kid
Dont get the criticism. I think he has largely played well for us. I thought he was very good last game. Linked up well with Alba, kept the ball well and managed to create danger.
