the future of Simeone and Atletico
Is it safe to predict that Atletico will play an underwhelming season (relative to the high-flying recent years) in the league and then Simeone will call it quits next summer?
What if? THEN WHAT?
What if? THEN WHAT?

Re: Is Simeone's Atleti cycle finished?
Where will he go that isn't a step down?
Inter?
Lazio?
Arsenal?
Argentina?
Hope he stays since most people don't like the Duopoly of La Liga

Re: Is Simeone's Atleti cycle finished?
Should clarify that by 'underwhelming' I don't necessarily mean a drop in the table.
Think they'll surely finish third, still -with the self-induced implosions of Sevilla, Villareal and Valencia, there's noone there to challenge them for that-, but they won't have any traction on the title race or the front duo.
As for their season's showing in Europe, it is not advisable for me to make any kind of prediction, comment, statement.

Re: Is Simeone's Atleti cycle finished?
He is starting his 6th season at Atletico which is longer than any other coach around euro big clubs, except for Wenger.
More than anything, losing that CL final took a toll on the team in ways that we dont suspect. I remember all the Simeone's quote about how losing to madrid was painful, and it's the second time in 3 years.
They will pick themselves up, and be back where we expect them late in the season imo.

Re: Is Simeone's Atleti cycle finished?
Tbh Atleti started poor last season too and got themselves back up and running. Defensively they are still solid it's just that in attack they haven't gelled with Gameiro yet and their best player Griezmann has just come back from his break. All the top teams in LL will have a bad spell so this slimp may be nothing more than a "slump" by the end of the season

He has won the la liga with Atleti and probably wants one last stab at the CL. I think he will leave this summer.

Re: Is Simeone's Atleti cycle finished?
I don't see the problem with taking a step down. Coaches do that all the time, for example Pep joining City this summer.
Arsenal could be a good destination? Don't know if Wenger plans to step down next year? Inter already have a grand coach now who will lead them to glory so that club is closed for the next 5+ years.

He'll go to Inter after De Boer gets sacked by the summer

He needs to adjust. Plays too narrowly. Needed width last night. By the time the full backs got the ball , opposition were already back in organised blocks. Such a basic thing. Carrasco should have come on and Saul should have hugged the right. Gameiro had to keep going wide to get the ball.

I think it is inevitable that he will land in the BPL sooner rather than later. Would love to see him take over Arsenal this coming summer.

Next Chelsea manager. Should be proud of what he achieved at Atleti during his stint but I think both club and manager could use a change of scenery IMO.

Is Simeone's Atleti cycle finished?
-Atleti look lethargic for the first time in years
-They took only 2 points from 2 matches against Qarabag and sit 3rd in their group, when they used to top groups regardless of which WC team they shared it with
-4th in the league with no guarantee of making the CL spots, drew against scrubs like Girona
-Transfer ban seems to be the final nail in the coffin

Re: Is Simeone's Atleti cycle finished?
finito 100%
Team can't be motivated and play twice as good as their level anymore. Both Simeone and Atleti were great for each other but they both should realise that they could only do enough and what they achieved has been remarkable. It's not the end of the world. These things happen in relationships because sometimes you have to realise that only by moving from one team you can both be happy in the long term. You know, things get quite complicated sometimes and in the end you sit down and have a good talk about where things are going. Sure things were all great and you both could have been together for a long time but life doesn't work that way if you know what I mean. When you look back in time at some point in the future, would you want to remember the times where things were great or when things started going really bad and stagnating? I am sure the answer is the former. So it's probably best to leave when things haven't escalated to the point where it's impossible to go back.

Re: Is Simeone's Atleti cycle finished?
The soft side of me feels bad that they had to meet Madrid in the past 4 editions of the CL and were eliminated.
The rough side says good riddance and they will be back to being our whipping boys.

Looool... RG is ok I hope, well written
Quite unbelievable really, the situation, they really should be topping the table if they had beaten Qarabag over the two games... so probably Chelsea can be lucky and qualify over Atletico... unless Simones manages to somehow reignite his team again.
