Re: What would you do to solve the BBC problem
Morata is getting 170K euros a week. Lukaku is getting 225K euros a week.
Mbappe's wage is.... 183K euros a week (the net part was bs; it's gross).
Which one would you rather have?
Mbappe saw the wages that other strikers were getting in the window and wanted his wage to be in line. It's Madrid's fault that they waited for those comparables to happen. And it's also 100% reasonable for Mbappe to ask the same as those other, and frankly lesser, players.

I forgot to mention that part. Of course it is reasonable for Mbappe to demand those figures, know your worth. Madrid also is reasonable to reject such demands, know what you can afford. Both parties, to me, were reasonable within their own rights and it didn't work out. Madrid did not want to pay an 18 year old all of that and Mbappe didn't want to be paid what Madrid was giving them. The world of footballing talent doesn't end with Mbappe (though it does pain me to see him parading up and down with that git Neymar).
I'm not too familiar with Chelsea and Man Utd's wage structure but I'm sure their model is different than ours. Also, Morata and Lukaku have (some) leverage to call such wage fees. Well, more Lukaku than Morata.

Re: What would you do to solve the BBC problem
Come on. You're going to tell me that either Lukaku or Morata EVER had the season Mbappe had this past one (27 goals + 8 assists)? They never have.... and that was in half a season + 1 month. Remember that Mbappe wasn't a regular until late November.
Even worse, Lukaku has no upside. Morata has some but he's already 24. Mbappe is just starting out as he's 18.
And yes, Madrid can say "our wage structure is what it is". But Madrid never faced an environment where they pay LESS than so many clubs (all the top tier EPL + PSG + Barca). Madrid was always either the best paying club or right there at 1a.
If you're going to now ask players to take less money to come to Madrid, then expect a whole lot of players to go somewhere else. We'll still get a vase majority of whoever we want... but it won't be a 90% success rate. It'll be close to 75%. With the really elite, it will be worse than that unless we make exceptions. And that will erode over time if the wage structure remains as it is.

So Lukaku, who has been leading scorer in a top league for years, scored 150 professional games already and is about to enter his prime at 24, doesn't deserve more wages and is a "lesser" player than Mbappe at *bleep* 18 now?
That's ridiculous.

Re: What would you do to solve the BBC problem
Compare seasons Hans. Look at Mbappe's season last year (first ever as a pro) to Lukaku's best ever in his career... Mbappe's was better Lukaku ever was. Not to mention Monaco sells 3-4 key players every year (no continuity) and plays with a lot of kids (their model).
And Mbappe scored 6 CL elimination round goals on his first try (didn't play any pool round games as he was not a regular)... so don't start about the "top league" stupidity.
Mbappe all day, every day and twice on Sundays over Lukaka and Morata.
I can't believe this is even a discussion lol.

Re: What would you do to solve the BBC problem
We are talking about wages.
There's no doubt Mbappé looks like there's a real good chance he will go on to be a superior striker than Lukaku.
But you can't pay an 18 year old with one season record the same wages as a mid-20 who's a proven top player. It's just wrong.

Re: What would you do to solve the BBC problem
To repeat Hans' statement, Lukaku is coming off of 5 successive double figure scoring tallies in the EPL (lowest being 10 goals). Morata, while he does not have such numbers, still came off a good season where he was 2nd top scorer for Madrid in La Liga and also has probably the 3rd best agent in the game to sell such demands.
I ain't comparing talent or none of that arbitrary stuff, Lukaku has "earned" the right to demand such a fee because he has shown to be a goal scorer of the highest order. Morata probably has a very good agent on him. As for Madrid, I hate hate HATE that I'm using this but if Bayern can be successful and absolutely famous while still maintaining a certain budget, don't see why Madrid can't do the same.
If Mbappe thinks what he did is worth the price he is calling, good for him. Understandable, I would have done the same. But Madrid's stance is also understandable, to me apparently.

Re: What would you do to solve the BBC problem
i had an old thread that answered this old question. my opinion hasn't changed.
hurricanes are annoying to deal with. troubled by the news of Benz renewal. considering his form, it sends the wrong message.
and finally get out of here hans. the epl is not a top league so that argument is invalid.

Re: What would you do to solve the BBC problem
Doc... please never mention Bayern as a model again. I agree with everything you said in exchange for you to never do that again. Please. I dislike Barca. But Bayern is not far behind. Nothing to do with the players and most of it tbh... their arrogant and hypocritical management drive me crazy. I'm sure they drive Bayern fans crazy too tbh. They act like they're on some higher moral ground... which is ridiculous given their personal histories.

Re: What would you do to solve the BBC problem
Wages come with consistency IMO. The transfer fee I would argue leaves in that room for the player to improve, thats why PSG payed 200m. But discussing wages - with what Mbappe is asking at age 18, how on earth will anyone be able to pay him when he asks for his next contract. What will he be demanding at age 28 in 10 years? That's what you also have to consider.
