2017/18 English Football League Carabao Cup and FA Cup thread
New season, new cups! New sponsors!
And off to a good start

And off to a good start
Carabao Cup draw descends into farce as Charlton get two opponents
The draw for the first round of the Carabao Cup descended into farce as Charlton Athletic were shown to be playing twice and other clubs were given the wrong opponents in an on-screen graphic.
The broadcast from Bangkok via a livestream on the Thai energy drink’s Facebook page further backfired amid sound issues and a stalling feed.

Charlton were drawn away to Exeter City but were also shown as being at home to Cheltenham Town, who in fact take on Oxford United. The same graphic stated AFC Wimbledon and Swindon Town were playing one another, an impossibility with both unseeded in the draw. They face Brentford and Norwich respectively.
The Football League newcomers Forest Green Rovers had to clarify on their Twitter feed that they would play MK Dons at home rather than Wolverhampton Wanderers away as a graphic suggested. Charlton also took to Twitter, making light of the confusion by asking their fans in a poll which team they would rather face.
The EFL apologised, saying the draw itself had been carried out correctly and that inaccuracies were the “result of human error” and “third-party technical issues”. It said it had launched an investigation which would also look into problems faced by fans attempting to access the stream on certain external platforms.

Re: 2017/18 English Football League Carabao Cup and FA Cup thread
What if CHARLTON ATHLETIC wins both games and face themselves in the next round ?
What happens in that case ? Do they win, or lose by default ? Or is it A team vs B team ?

Re: 2017/18 English Football League Carabao Cup and FA Cup thread
Here's what happened at the second round draw, two weeks ago:
Well the games of the 2nd round were played yesterday, and will continue to be played tonight, with clubs like Newcastle and Huddersfield in action.
The draw for the 3rd round then will happen, err.. afterwards..
All in all, this new sponsorship is going really well, wouldn't you say?
https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/aug/10/carabao-cup-draw-second-round-mix-upThe Guardian wrote: Carabao Cup second-round draw mix-up leaves clubs baffled
• Clubs left initially unsure over whether they would be home or away
• Sunderland beat Bury to earn tie at Carlisle, Blackburn draw rivals Burnley

Confusion reigned in the second-round draw for the Carabao Cup on Thursday night.
Drawn in the Sky Sports studios by Alex McLeish and John Salako, alongside the host Julian Warren, things appeared to go awry early on during the Southern part of the draw.
The draw was conducted with seeded teams being picked out, followed by whether they would be at home or away and then finally, their opposition.
But as Salako said Norwich would be away to Charlton, he appeared to realise the previous matches had been drawn the wrong way around.
A number of clubs in the southern section, including Norwich, Charlton, Brentford and Watford, all tweeted about their confusion. Watford initially reported an away tie against Bristol City, as per the draw, only to amend it to a home one.
Brentford tweeted “We will be at home to QPR”, before following up with “or we might be away, we’re not quite sure!!”. The English Football League subsequently clarified the draw

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2017/aug/21/carabao-cup-third-round-draw-415am-beijingThe Guardian wrote:Sleep and you’ll miss it: Carabao Cup third-round draw scheduled for 4.15am
• Draw held in Beijing at 11.15am local time and can be followed on Twitter
• Problems have hit the draws for the first two rounds of the League Cup
The EFL has been criticised for scheduling the Carabao Cup third-round draw at 4.15am BST on Thursday, with the Football Supporters’ Federation saying the decision to hold it in Beijing will “increase the sense of disconnection many domestic fans feel”.
The league strongly defended its plan to begin proceedings at around 11.15am local time in Beijing as the draw for the competition courted controversy for a third successive round. Problems have dogged the previous two draws.
The third round marks the entry of the seven Premier League clubs engaged in European competition and fans wanting to follow the draw must do so via the EFL’s Carabao Cup Twitter feed.
A spokesman for the FSF said: “In our 2017 national supporters’ survey fans expressed increasing frustration at instances of overseas audiences apparently being prioritised over domestic supporters. Holding the draw in Beijing at that time can only increase the sense of disconnection many domestic fans feel.”
All in all, this new sponsorship is going really well, wouldn't you say?

More evidence that this is the most pointless cup in existence. The thing has been whored out to Thailand ffs. Does Asia really care about who Bristol Rovers or Burton Albion will draw in the cup?

Well, let's say for argument's sake that 2% of the English care about the League Cup draw - that's 1 million people.
Now let's say that only about 0.1% of the Chinese are interested, that's still 1.4 million people.
It's just simple maths...

Re: 2017/18 English Football League Carabao Cup and FA Cup thread
Point is, it's likely that 2% of the English do actually care while it's highly unlikely that even 0.1% of the Chinese would bother.Hapless_Hans wrote:Jay29 wrote:More evidence that this is the most pointless cup in existence. this Liverpool is just like the Rodgers Liverpool team just before he got sacked. They come out the blocks fast putting pressure on the other team then give away a goal and completely collapse

Much like Neymar and Messi, sometimes you have to make the move to get away from the shadow of Aaron Ramsay and OWN that midfield.
