Morata has 5 goals this season and he barely plays. If he was a stater he would get more than 20 goals with ease

If Sporting pck up any points today Valencia will move into the bottom 3. The CwC came at the worst time. Couldn't wait to heap more misery onto them with a win next week, alas we have to play them in February because of the stupid glorified friendlies we have to play

Yes, I hate pushing back games because it usually promotes complacency.

I remember during the 2014/15 season, Carlo's Madrid were 5 points clear at the top (with Barcelona having a game in hand). Our last game of the year was a win against Almeria (4-1). Things couldn't look more rosy at that point.

But then, after we returned from the CwC, we suffered our first defeat after 20 wins in a row. It was against Valencia at the Mestalla (2-1). And everybody knows what happened after that.

Maybe that's why I never liked the CwC. I mean, don't get me wrong, it's definitely a trophy worth fighting for. But I hope this time around things won't change after the tournament.

On the bright side, Z is rotating way more than Carlo, so at least we won't have to worry about him running the players to the ground like the Italian did.

Sevilla away to Celta today. 100% defeat, but oh well. Team:

I didn't anticipate Iborra of players scoring a hat-trick. I think that's within the margin of error.

Funnily enough we scored in the 91st minute and the reff went over the time by 1 min and 30 secs despite only giving 5 minutes. Maybe they shouldn't have pretended to be injured every other minute if they wanted the minimum of 3 added minutes

Umm, injury time bias is just another way refs handle corruption in Liga Florentino Perez, nothing to do when or how Refdrid scores.

Atleti lost 3-0 at Villareal while playing awful. Griezmann with no goal in eight league games. Atleti yet to beat a team in the current top five of La Liga.

Their transition to a more attacking, expansive team has been rough to say the least.

So what's the actual problem at Atletico at the moment? Doesn't look like "just back to the level" at the moment. Defense leaking like crazy. Last season they conceded 18 in the league and right now they already conceded 14.

Simeone just needs a new challenge probably.

In one hand, it's a change in philosophy and thinking. Atletico is taking a more positive, attacking approach to games which I think is causing an imbalance in how they defend and attack as an unit.

On the other hand, I think certain players are simply not playing well at all at the moment. Griezeman, Koke, Saul, anyone of Godin's CB partners, Juanfran and I guess Tiago and Gaitan just not pulling their weight.

They are commentators in Spain who are of the thought that the approach Simeone has been doing with Atletico has a limited shelf life of 5 years during which you start to see the gradual mental break down of one's squad. Maybe that is also the case.

And we're not even halfway through with the season.

Currently being out passed by Las Palmas, Atletico would probably score a very jammy goal sometime during the match. 0-0 so far and Las Palmas are playing quite well.

Saul scores. Atleti back to their roots currently 35% posession against Las Palmas and winning 1-0

If it's true that they change the philosophy that might actually be worth an off year. I think being ultra defensive works for a while but at some point you have to be more positive if you want to stay at the top. They have more possesion, goals and shots now so it could well be that.

Regarding players not playing so good - I have no doubt that plays a part. I've watched a few games and some of them looked very bad. I just thought that it would be likely that such a massive change wouldn't just be down to a few players underperforming.

Created hardly anything of any note but got a goal through Saul. Yup, a standard jammy Atletico 1-0 win. Sigh, oh how I didn't miss these sort of games with them.
