Very classy player, he plays like a young Özil.

Very impressed as well.

Didn't understand why this no nome was starting for Arsenal when he lined up against us on opening day but I definitely see why now.

He showed his talent towards the mid-end of the last season but never got the hype since he opted to play for Nigeria instead of England lol.

But he is talented. Don't know what his ceiling is but he is mature for his age and his ability to play between the lines is really good along with his one touch passing. Wouldn't agree with urban that he is like a young Ozil. He is more of a CM/AM hybrid than a pure AM.

He has goals in him so hopefully he can start scoring a bit more like these

Big 45 no safety, i don't mind him being underrated to be honest. Let him grow slowly and quietly away from the limelight and stupid trophies like PFA young player of the year. He is doing well, improving week in week out. He is an actual footballer, has a very good understanding of the game unlike someone like Ox for example Laughing

He looks too sturdy and big, but he then has talent and intelligence. You'd expect him to be a physical powerful player and that's not his style funnily. Lacking goals I agree.

Yea he is agile for his size.

His role atm is purely to assist other midfielders in terms of easing the pressure from them while also assisting the forwards. He has the most assists for Arsenal so far. Goals will come eventually.

I actually didn't rate him when he was in the youth academy. Thought he would be sold but he made me eat some humble pies.

If you asked Arsenal fans who was most likely to come up from the youth team none would have said Iwobi. Iwobi was that guy that played whenever a hole needed filling: left wing, right wing, up front, centre mid, etc. while the likes of Zelalem, Crowley and Akpom were marked as more promising talents.

But he got a lucky break last year because we had injuries to Ramsey and Cazorla and Zelalem, Crowley, Toral, basically anyone who could play 10 were on loan. So Iwobi came in for a couple of FA Cups and played really well. Then Walcott and Chamberlain lost form completely so he got starts in the league and hasn't looked back since.

What he showed was that he wasn't a flashy player but he took up excellent positions and knew when to come narrow and link-up play which is something Walcott and Chamberlain struggled with. So he actually made the team better. Every time Wenger talks about him he calls him an "interesting" player and I don't think even he actually predicted he would break through but now he's playing every week and playing in huge games against Barca, PSG, Liverpool, Chelsea etc without looking out of his depth.

His end product needs to improve since he gets into good shooting positions but doesn't score as much as he could do. Hopefully that'll come.

As for England, he represened them at U17 and U19 level but was never called up to the U20s or U21s for whatever reason so he chose to play for Nigeria instead. England suffers for it because they desperately need more of this type of player. Nigeria will now have Iwobi and Iheanacho as a duo which is exciting for them.

It's too early for this. He's got a long way to go, and much consistency and results to show.

Still a player in there somewhere, shame what's happened between him and Pulis, and WBA refusing to let him leave anywhere. It's pretty clear though that it's a two sided affair, as he has some obvious attitude problems. Bit of a shame because I always thought he's a good player.

I really like the look of Iwobi, but I have to see more. Talented young man though.

Not derailing the thread or anything and the kid's a legit talent, I concur. He was excellent yesterday.
But lol I found a striking parallel between him and our kid Rashford from this post @Jay has posted above. You can basically replace almost everything and its applicable in Rashford's rise to fame too.

So here goes.
Jay29 wrote:If you asked Man United fans who was most likely to come up from the youth team none would have said Rashford. Rashford was that guy that played whenever a hole needed filling: left wing, right wing, up front, etc. while the likes of Januzaj, Wilson and Angelo Henriquez were marked as more promising talents.

But he got a lucky break last year because we had injuries to Rooney and Martial and Keane, basically any one who could play 9 were on loan. So Marcus came in for a Euro Cup tie and played really well. Then Rooney and Depay lost form completely so he got starts in the league and hasn't looked back since.

What he showed was that he was a bit flashy player but still is intelligent enough to take up excellent positions and knew when to come narrow and link-up play which is something Rooney and Depay struggled with. So he actually made the team better. Every time LvG talked about him he called him a "quality" player and I don't think even he actually predicted he would break through but now he's playing every week and playing in huge games against Arsenal, Man City, Liverpool, and England NT etc without looking out of his depth.

His composure needs to improve a bit more as he obviously gets into good shooting positions as he's a striker Very Happy but even though he cant stop scoring these days its clear he's riding a wave of form and it will dry up at some point (His main issue in fact during his youth days was lack of composure in front of goal I have heard). Hopefully it'll come.

As for England, he represened them at U17 and U19 level but was called up to the U20s or U21s and also was called up for the senior NT. England still suffers eventhough they desperately not need more of this type of player as they already have 2 or 3 cfs who are quite good and better than him. They suffer because they are managed by clueless farts like Big Sam who wont call him up anyway but will call up crap like rooney. Englad will now not have Rashford which is not exciting for them [b]and instead they still have

Stop derailing this thread with your self-obsession.

Man United fans should take their pertinacious Rooney issues out on their therapists and spare the rest of us.

Yea that's why you won't see any Arsenal fans hype him. Or any other youth player anymore Laughing

Apart from Bellerin. But then Bellerin is the best RB in the PL and top 3 in the world

Tbf I really enjoyed Glory's post and am happy my post was such a useable template.

And on a serious note, it perhaps shows that none of us are any good at identifying youth players who will break into first teams.
