Detroit : Become Human
THE WORLD OF DETROIT
Inspired by our short called “Kara” back in 2012, Detroit is a neo-noir thriller set in the near-future city of Detroit. Androids, who look exactly like human beings, have replaced humans in most tasks: they are workers, babysitters, gardeners, nurses, teachers, clerks. The story of Detroit starts with an unexplained incident that begins to affect the Androids. Some disappear without any explanation, others have unexpected behaviors and strangely show signs of emotions. The rumors of “deviant” androids start spreading, but no one seems to know what’s really happening…
CONNOR, THE DEVIANT HUNTER
After Kara, Connor is the second playable character we’re introducing.
Connor is an advanced prototype assigned to police forces to help them investigate cases involving deviants. He is cold and analytical; he thinks fast and benefits from some surprising advanced features. He is very determined and nothing matters more to him than accomplishing the mission he was programmed for.
In this new trailer, Connor is confronted with a tense hostage situation involving a deviant android holding a little girl and threatening to jump from a rooftop. Depending on your decisions and strategy, Connor will succeed or fail in saving the girl; survive or die. Your actions will lead to different outcomes and will have consequences far beyond this scene.
PLAY YOUR OWN STORY IN DETROIT
Detroit is based on concepts we created in our past games taken to another level (well, that’s the plan ;-)
Detroit is about playing the story. Through your actions and decisions you drive the story and face the consequences of your choices. You are in charge of the fate of these characters. You will become a “co-writer” who will have to make critical decisions that will impact the entire story and its world.
As you play as all of the characters, you’ll see the story from different perspectives. You will need to weigh each decision, as actions made by one character may have consequences on others. You will also need to avoid putting the characters at risk, because they can all die, and like in Heavy Rain, the story will continue without them.

Was blown away by it. Looks much better than Beyond Two Souls did. Hope this is a return to form for Quantic Dream.

Yeah this game looks very promising, i like games that gives you different choices which leads to actual changes in the narrative.
Many games have this element but the choices you make in them rarely matters in the end (like telltale games or Life is Strange), this one looks it will be different.

Amazing idea to make the game about androids so you can pass of David Cage's wooden dialogue as the way androids talk

I just want to see how accurate they make the city so that's enough for me to take a look at it.

It's a futuristic Sci fi game so I'm not sure accurate it will be.
Wouldn't surprise me if it looks very different for that reason alone.

Part of me wants to buy this game, since I really enjoyed Heavy Rain and I suspect Detroit Become Human will uphold a similar standard. David Cage has impressed me with his previous work. I still haven't started on GoW yet, though. Unlike you guys, I need to finish my games in the order that they were purchased, otherwise I always end up with a RG- esque backlog

It's a pretty niche type of game. I don't think it'll get the same, inflated scores that some of the more established, triple A franchises have been getting in recent years. FIFA 18 has a metascore of 85 ffs

Most scores haven't been inflated tbh, of course they are exceptions but in general this is no longer the world where Little Big Planet gets a 95.

Detroit: Become Human seems to be receiving a lot of mixed reviews. Apparently, some people are review bombing the game because they don't appreciate how the story revolves around slavery and domestic abuse Anyone on here gotten it, yet?

Re: Detroit : Become Human
David Cage games are always mixed reviewed. He isn't many people's cup of tea. I have read this game is his best and i have also read that it is his worst.
It's definitely worth playing imo but probably not for £40

Re: Detroit : Become Human
I see Slant Magazine already gave the game a traditionally low rating, which means that it's probably a pretty good game From what I can tell, they seem to rate popular games low, in order to direct traffic to their website.

Maybe reviewers are not happy with how poorly the game presents issues regarding slavery and domestic abuse.
Not because a game tackles serious issues should it be excused for tackling them poorly and with poor execution. I haven't played Detroit yet, but based on Cage's previous work which I did play, I have serious doubt about his storytelling abilities.

Re: Detroit : Become Human
Haven't read reviews but are they complaining that there is racism and slavery or that those issues are implemented badly?
If it's latter then fair enough, hard to know these days though considering how the media is.

That's would be understandable. There are a fair few ultra progressive people in media nowadays who demand a "safe zone" for everything, though. People who insist on dictating what other people can and cannot do. I simply can't stand such people.
I haven't played Detroit yet, but based on Cage's previous work which I did play, I have serious doubt about his storytelling abilities.
I personally like that there's an element of cheesiness to his games, regardless of whether or not they're intentional. His games give me the impression that his view on storytelling is still stuck in the 90s, which I find refreshingly positive. The majority of 90s movies did not have anywhere close to the same amount of polish that today's movies have, but they had far more charm, in my opinion. Back then, people didn't care as much about inconsistencies, or if the plot didn't always make complete sense. I suppose one could argue that it seems like David Cage takes himself a bit too seriously considering his actual competence, but I've enjoyed his previous games.

Re: Detroit : Become Human
Just to note, I have no opinion on the game itself.
Generally, from the reviews that I read, the criticism is not of the subjects themselves but in the presentation of the subject. Which I think is a fair point.
