It's time the joke that is copa america is abolished. Top players don't give a single f about this cup. They either avoided call up or pretended injuries.

no qualifications round, guest mascot teams and now even players don't give a fk.

Neymar wanted to be there and fought hard for it but Barcelona ended up blocking it in return for him being allowed to play in the Olympics.

Yeah. If Neymar fought hard for copa he would be playing it in now. Let's not kid ourselves, do you think any club can stop players from going to euro or world cup?

But they did to copa because Neymar himself don't give a fk about it.

The fact that Neymar preferred that "we don't give a fk but here let's have our u-23 "trophy that is Olympics trophy over the copa says it all.

Oh and noway Barca can block a player like Neymar if he really wanted to play in copa. He himself rejected the copa and made up an excuse.

Yea, he and the Brazilian Federation were trying hard to get Neymar to play both cups but Barca didn't want to agree because they think he needs a rest and didn't want him playing both. The Olympics is after the Copa, and Barca doesn't have to release players for the Olympics since it's not a FIFA tournament. So they pretty much told Brazil that if they wanted Neymar to play on home soil and try and win Brazil Gold, that they agree to not call him up to the Copa (or if they did call up Neymar for the Copa, that they wouldn't release him to the Olympics). Brazil agreed

So yea, great thread.

If he didnt miss a wide open header in London Brazil would have a gold medal and Neymar would be at this copa america.

Again no club can stop players from going to Euro and world cup but it works to copa. No explanation for that?? Show one player that was denied euro participate this year because of Olympics ?

Olympics is a Micky mouse trophy in football. There is a reason why it is a u-23 competition. There are players who will participate in both euro and Olympics as well. Again home Olympics or not there is no way a player skips Euro or world cup for that u-23 competition.

Also Barca has very little scope to piss Neymar off given his contact situation. It does seem like he is not really disappointed to be not part of this copa.

Oribe knocked in 2, and Mexico were the rightful winners regardless of if Oscar missed or made anything. Give credit were it's due.

Yes keep trying to ruin the value of the trophy, it won't matter in the end. We all know what this is really about. You know it's inevitable Argentina will win, King Messi will get his international trophy by scoring a hat trick in the final and will be getting all the praise as he's on his way to a 6th ballon d'or.

CR7 fanboys will be tears because their hero will always be remembered as the guy who choked again'st Greece in the Euro Final in his home country with a midfield of Rui Costa, Figo and Deco supporting him.

These delusions are not healthy. I do not get the overration of club players like CR7 and mehssi. International titles will aleays weigh far more. End of discussion.

LOL for who. this ain't the 70s anymore pal. international football is a joke.

When Miroslav Klose gets rated the best striker or one of the best strikers of all time (or even the 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th tiers) of greatest strikers, we can say international trophies hold some very high value.

What are "guest mascot teams"? There WERE qualifiers for central america. Every Copa America all south american teams play, that wasn't gonna change for this, central american teams had to qualify.

I see you're just as detached from reality as adit is.
It is because of the difficulty to succeed on the international stage is what gives it it's merit. It's why mehssi should never be compared to maradona, especially when you consider his poor performances in both world cup and copa america. In regards to Klose, everyone who has a brain knows that was just a stat padding achievement. And besides, a world cup > top gs any day anyways.

You're just saying that because you're either A: too young, B: too ignorant, C: not been a football fan long enough to know what it means to win an title for your nation as it means a lot for most players. Which is basically A and B. Or D: You're so butthurt that you dismiss a competition(s) because your favorite player will never win an international title of relevance. or E: all the above.

I think "E" fits you best. It's okay. It's a very tough task to be in same tier as Zidane and Ronaldinho. Winning the highest level of club and international titles is no easy task. But thats what it takes plus key performances to make proper all time greats.

Ask mehssi or CR7 if he wants a CL over a world cup. Or a Copa America/Euro even. Answer should be very obvious. You will learn with time eventually. International competitions still relevant and strong as ever. Its only the olympics that don't matter. Well the gold medals do matter but the world cup defeats its purpose...

how would a mexican know the feeling and value of winning a world cup?

no one thinks zidane and ronaldinho are the greatest just because theyve won both CL and WC. no one thinks theyre the greatest in general. just like no one thinks torres is the greatest striker because he's won both.

klose stat padding? lol, if you are able to stat pad 16 goals in a knock out tournament in such few games, i guess that tournament isn't that great.

when klose, luca toni, pedro, torres, villa (he's great but not REALLY great), guivarch are considered the greatest forwards then the world cup has a much higher value.

just like when mertesacker and materazzi are considered the greatest defenders... i could name the more but i think you know where i'm going here.

You use Pedro as an example of World Cup players like he ever did anything of note of in the WC (hint: he didn't). What he did do is win 3 CL, a bunch of leagues, and is the only player to score in all club competitions in a season. But you know international football sucks.

Messi is already in top 3 alongisde with pele and maradona. no matter how hard you try it will remain like this.Man has 5 ballon dor, 4 CL and 7-8 la liga titles plus youtube skills to back it up in future. I would not trade it for Maradona's 1 world cup. Imagine messi without all these records and titles....
and with only 1 WC in his career. Sounds very boring.
Would think about Pele's 3 world cup though.

International football isn't the be all, Im with you there. But players like Mertesacker and Materazzi weren't even the best defenders in their own teams in the world cups they played at. Cannavaro was the best defender in the WC 2006 and that landed him the Ballon D'Or. That tells you how much impact international football has. Almost every WC year the winner of the Ballon D'Or/FIFA WPOTY is a top performer in the tournament.

International cups lost its reputation a little bit. in Pele and Maradona times it was only valuable thing you could win. Today you can win CL, ballon dor and commercials. Internet mobile phones, Instagram and facebook followers. there are so many exciting things that world cup isnt the most exciting thing in the world anymore. This is why Neymar prefers selena gomez over copa america. Messi is just greedy wants to win it all

No player is playing both the Olympics and Euro/CA. They have to choose one or the other. Neymar chose the Olympics, which is in Brazil and is the one title Brazil has yet to win.
