Roma Vs Real Madrid (CL 2015/16)

It's not like Spalletti didn't get his own share of 7-1 tbh. Could happen in the return leg, who knows.

Spalletti got beat bad that time, but if there is one thing you can't say of him is that he is inflexible. He is very tactically adept and a great improvement over Garcia. Its like sports said, never seen a more rigid manager than Rudi.

I didn't get to watch the game but it sounds like they did well considering that Roma are under construction. They've plaid a different 11/formation every game so far. They'll find themselves soon.

Evil Madrid won, but it's quite amazing because a very poor Roma could have easily tied the game if they didn't waste 2-3 quite easy chances. Roma defended well in the first half. Afterwards they became tired and lef gaps and Madrid arrived into the box very easily, so the goal was coming. The surprising thing is how weak Madrid appeared. Roma twice or even thrice created clear cut chances with a simple long pass to Carvajal's back, Madrid's weak spot. Unimpressed with both teams.

Regarding Spalletti, he made several small tactical changes even in this game and is always looking for other ways to tweak, something Garcia didn't do. His screaming at Nainggolan for the backpassing when we should've been attacking was a sight to behold.

I think it's Pjanic running back next to Jese, he should be closing him down, but he is not. Maybe he was gased, in any case, not a good sight

Wouldn't blame Ben Kingsley for anything in this game tbh, if your front line is borderline pathetic in the final 3rd and you're playing a World Class team it's only going to end one way. Roma looked pretty comfortable for large periods and if they could actually finish a counter attack we'd be praising the manager but that's all ifs and buts.

Bottom line is you can't have 2 wide players and a false 9 that can't finish or keep their nerve in the box, then look to a 40 year old man as the saving grace of the team.

And this wasn't the only situation like this. We were laughing so bad with friends that in these situations what Roma's defenders did was only running back into the same direction until the RM player shoots the ball hilarious

Honestly, he really had no reason to back off so much considering he had cover and it is Jese. Really bad stuff which Spaletti would have probably told him in choice words.

Roma should have scored one last night , they were wasteful . They had a good game though , they just lost to the better team .

In defense , both goals were mainly the fault of the fullbacks , Florenzi and Digne . In Jese's goal , the rest of the defense reacted more or less like they should , kept their position and denied a clear pass to the players they were marking , however Digne failed big time . And of course credit to Jese , who did very well .

As for Florenzi , i said before Spalletti took over , playing him RB in a team which dominates possession could work nicely , but when you're not exactly dominating anything to begin with , it isn't such a good idea . He had a good game overall tbh , but he was at fault in Ronaldo's goal .

He said this game should define where Florenzi will be playing , well i think he should be playing higher up the pitch , if anything. You just know he can fill in decently whenever needed , imo it's a waste to have Florenzi there right now.

SES-Salah-Florenzi , what's the problem here ? Even in 4-3-3 with Salah as false 9 maybe , SES-Salah-Florenzi ; Naingollan-De Rossi-Pjanic , there are better things to do than have him play RB , at least in this Roma .

Thought Roma did really well but their touches in the final 3rd let them down.

I also though Ronaldo had a really good game over-all. Wasn't wasteful, made some nice passes, and had a nice goal.

Personally think Ronaldo's goal was down to his own brilliance more than Florenzi's inability to stop him. Most full-backs probably can't anticipate that chop that Ronaldo likes to pull off and that goes doubly for Florenzi who isn't even a proper full-back anyway.

As for Jese's goal, Digne just wasn't decisive enough. Afraid to put his foot in for fear Jese would burn him and not smart enough to try and direct him away from goal. Pjanic has never been solid defensively either though Garcia had been working on that in his first season, but basically gave it up to let Mire focus more on his offensive game.

I will also point out that Perotti, our false 9, isn't a particularly prolific scorer and that's not really what he's in the team to do. Similar to Totti, he's good at finding small spaces and exploiting them by releasing the wingers, but unlike Totti, he lacks the killer instinct to go for goal himself. That's part of the reason why Salah and SES had a lot of success getting behind Madrid's backline. Just a shame neither could finish.

Don't get the impression Madrid would be complacent. After all, this is the team's only "realistic" chance of getting a trophy. And "realistic" is really being Mother Theresa generous.
