David Silva MIA in Europe one again
Another big game has passed him by yet again. 5 years at City yet not a single memorable performance in the CL. The likes of Ozil, Hazard, Yaya, Fabregas, Benzema have been slaughtered for less while he always gets away without any criticism. Easily the most overrated player in the whole of Europe for me considering the plaudits he gets.

If Ozil did what he did tonight we'd never hear the end of it

You are way too late to the party. His choking prime was already in 2010.

I'm under the impression that Man City's players get relatively little media attention, now that Balotelli isn't there to fool around and cause controversy. Are there even any fans of the club on this forum?

Just thinking about City's biggest moments since the takeover. There isn't a single game where you can say "Oh, he won them that match". The likes of Nasri, Yaya, Kompany, Aguero have numerous while Silva literally has nothing on his CV apart from one pass against United when the game was long won.
He's literally rated because he looks pretty on the ball. Madness.

exactly .
other than the " Yaya toure is a defensive liability " fad that lasted for few month , i don't recall many people giving enough crap to assess or scrutinize City players.

Spot on Gil. The thing is the EPL players are overhyped. Non of them perform in Europe which for me is the litmus test. Suarez, CR, Messi, Nerman, Benzema, hell even Benz have done it. That is one of the reasons I don't rate Ibra as highly as some people.

Only legit performance I saw from him in the UCL and it was just a good performance was 1st leg against Chelsea while he was at Valencia. He played well that day.Great Leader Sprucenuce wrote:A world class player who has never performed in the best competition.Unique wrote:silva is a world class player. anyone that's says different is crazy.

Didn't he just recover from injury? He was out during the weekend. Give the guy a break

Did he come back from injury every time he played a (relatively) tough opponent in the UCL as well and fail to convince?

Why is it his fault when the entire team usually flops? I have nothing for Silva in particular, but this seems to be a case of scapegoating.

he played good against us in 12/13, but that was in the group stages. however, his perfomances in the ko rounds have always been atrocious, but he hasn't played many yet

Agreed. The entire City team is flopping not just him.
With City in all the KO rounds they mainly land us can't expect much from him there

He's flopped in big games for Spain as well. Particularly at World Cups. If he converted that 1 on 1 chance that Xavi created for him against Netherlands it would be 2-0 Spain and it will never end 1-5. The less said about 2010 the better.
Big game flop. This has been established for years now among Spain fans so I'm surprised to see this thread created in 2015.

No other top player gets such excuses so why should he?

Re: David Silva MIA in Europe one again
Gil's reasons are his own but I'm not scapegoating City's and Pelle's clear flopping. But he is considered an elite player in the EPL and has yet to honestly live up to that standards when he appears in the UCL for City. Yes, the rest of his teammates has not showered himself in glory but we aren't talking about his teammates, we are talking about David Silva.
And let's not pretend players don't perform great in spite of their teammates bottling it. We see it a lot.
