Kondogbia as well as Imbula are developing players.Even though they are both better than Coquelin at this point, they aren't significant upgrades who'd help Arsenal win immediately.
In that sense, I agree with Wenger.
I think that Kondogbia at least is a significant upgrade to Coquelin, but I haven't seen enough of Imbula (though I know he's highly rated).
Regardless though the main gripe was that Arsenal don't have any depth in that area and should Coquelin get injured, or get a red card (as he should have already) then they are forced to play Arteta or Flamini. Getting one of Kondogbia or Imbula, who are most likely upgrades anyway, would also allow Arsenal not to drop in level of play if they pick up an injury or suspension.

Pretty sure Higuain would have helped them . He could give something Arsenal currently don't have.

Yeah, if it means paying his €100m release clause, then he could've helped them by a bit.

Like release clause are what matters in transfers.
If Arsenal can convince Higuain with CL football and money then the transfer is very possible.

Convincing higuain will take 5 minutes
convincing Napoli to sell him to us for less than 40m will take 3 years

Lol Napoli Prez ain't selling Higuain for anything other than an inflated price, because A he's crazy but he's not an idiot and B he feels no need to sell because the fan base would expect he uses that money to find a valid replacement which is probably impossible as they don't even look like the possibility of being a regular CL team is remotely in their near future.

You think Napoli wouldn't accept £50m at the start of the transfer window?

Probably not. Napoli have no reason to sell him nor they can buy anyone as good as him.

Sterling, Pedro, Dzeko, Kondogbia, Alex Sandro, Kurzawa, Darmian, Motta, Jovetic, Jackson Martinez, Kranevitter, Vietto, Bacca, Morata, Martial all players that would've improved Arsenal. Yet he pays Walcott £140k p/w.

Still they would sell for a price in between £50-70m. Napoli president might be a hardass but he is NOT an idiot, he knows he can't get that kind of price a couple of years later.

Re: 2015/16 Summer Transfer: Deadline Days
70M he'd bite your hand off as he could legit do more for the team
50M, nah. That's overpriced as it is. But like I said money means nothing in this situation because
A) You don't get to pocket a chunk of it without being hated by your fans who expect more, it's not some passive fan base they have.
B) You can't possibly replace Higuain with one equal player at Napoli in the situation they're in without paying over the odds for some hyped striker AND giving him a ridiculous pay packet. Even then it probably won't happen.
C) Relates to point 'A'. Because you're expected to spend the money, you don't actually benefit from selling them. Then you end up in a lose lose situation.

Re: 2015/16 Summer Transfer: Deadline Days
What strikers will you get for less than 40 million nowadays ?
29 year old Jackson Martinez goes for 40 mill now days. 19 year old going for 80 million.
You have to decide though. Is your aim just to finish top 4 then you don't have to buy anyone. But does signing Higuain mean finishing in top 2 ? It's not a given but chances increases two folds. Then why not?
Higuain now has some reason to leave too. No CL football and much better wages at Arsenal. With r tight player push you could have made a deal in-between 55-65 mill euros imo.

Dzeko went for 15m, Mandzu 20m (iirc), JoJo 20m
Plenty of decent strikers at low prices

Completely agreed.
Arsene Wenger needs to realize that he has to overpay for strikers, they are simply too overprized nowadays - if you want a proven goalscorer like Higuain of course you have to caugh up for higher than £50m.
It's his mistake anyway, could've had Higuain before Napoli but dithered because of £10m.

Re: 2015/16 Summer Transfer: Deadline Days
Dzeko is the one I don't get. IMO clearly the best striker available in this window.
Coquelin is doing just fine. Just because his rise to the Arsenal DM spot is unexpected doesn't mean he's performing worse than all those names thrown around.
And Jay is right: At DM, depth is the problem, not Coquelin's quality.
At striker, it's the other way around.

Dzeko scored 4 goals last season in total. Falcao scored 4 goals last season in total. Before last season Falcao was largely considered better than Dzeko.
Just sayin'. Dzeko had his own risk this window. It's still too early to tell how he'll do. Roma may or may not have got a coup.

Yes I guess you're right. Dzeko should've left City earlier.

how would you rate Wolfsburg title winning Dzeko vs. Dortmund title winning Lewa?
Honestly the Wolfsburg Dzeko was so good. He was a much more all around forward than at City where he was used as a second option and almost invariably as a poacher partner to suit Aguero.

Re: 2015/16 Summer Transfer: Deadline Days
Title winning Wolfsburg Dzeko too played with a congenial strike partner, Grafite.
No idea how to compare them, I'd say Lewandowski is a superior player overall while Dzeko has a superior goalgetter's instinct.

Re: 2015/16 Summer Transfer: Deadline Days
I think we need the whole picture on Dzeko before we label him a risk for Arsenal. That's 4 goals in 16 appearances for City last season in all comps. Not as bad as it seems when he's playing 3rd fiddle to Aguero and Bony.

Re: 2015/16 Summer Transfer: Deadline Days
Why purchase Dzeko when there could be clearly better strikers available on the Market next yr ?
Dzeko would've looked like such a stupid short term move.Basically Arsenal would've landed in a position where they would have had to settle with Dzeko when better younger strikers became available on the market next yr.
And £50m for Higuain ? Man that's insanity.
