Telekom-Cup 2015

Sunday 12 July 2015 was the 7th Telekom-Cup which was held in Mönchengladbach for the second time. Participants of the invitational tournament this time:

- Borussia Mönchengladbach (hosts)
- Bayern München (holders)
- HSV
- FC Augsburg

The matches are 45 minutes long and decided with a penalty shoot-out if they end in a draw. As many international players only returned from their holidays two days ago, the teams line-up with a lot of youngsters (except for HSV who played pretty much their normal starters).

Semi finals:
Gladbach vs Hamburg (0:0), 4:5 PSO
Bayern vs Augsburg 1:2

Third place:
Gladbach vs Bayern (0:0) 4:3 PSO

Final:
HSV vs Augsburg 2:1

What kind of team did Bayern play?

As Hans said in the Bundesliga thread - Bayern played U18 plus bench players.

Bayern vs Augsburg: Ulreich - Rafinha, Alaba, P.Steinhart - Xabi Alonso - Lahm, Rode - Kurt, Thiago, Douglas Costa - T.  Müller

Bayern vs Gladbach: Starke - Rafinha, Alaba, P.Steinhart (28. Pohl) - Kimmich - Lahm, Höjbjerg - Weihrauch (23. Benko), Gaudino, Green - Lappe

But then, Gladbach weren't exactly playing their starters either:

Gladbach vs HSV: Sippel - Jantschke, Elvedi, Brouwers, C.Lenz -Schulz, Stindl - Traoré (29. Mlapa), Ritter (36. Ndenge) - Raffael (23. Sow), Hahn (42. Mario Rodriguez)

Gladbach vs Bayern: Heimeroth - Jantschke, Brouwers, Schulz, Elvedi - Stindl, Dahoud - Traoré, Ritter - Raffael, Hahn

Gladbach - HSV was decent, Bayern - Augsburg pretty entertaining. Rode and Thiago with two wonderful solos against cross and sidebar, we played quite eye pleasing.

'Gladbach' - 'Bayern' though .. among the worst 45 minutes of football I've ever seen lol.
Steinhart, Lappe, Weihrauch, Pohl have never played a competitive minute for the first team, probably never will (Lappe is 27 lol). Green, Starke have no future with us either.

Benko looks interesting though.

Sinan Kurt, I don't get him at all. Have not seen him done ANYTHING in any of the matches I've seen him get minutes.

So why was Lappe in the squad in the first place? To make up the numbers?

As for Sinan Kurt - well, obviously he thought that he is good enough for Bayern, or he would have chosen to stay at Gladbach and develop properly under the tutelage of Lucien Favre first before he makes the risky step to Bavaria...

18 year-old Norwegian talent, Ulrik Yttergård Jenssen played the full 90mins for Lyon against PSV Eindhoven today.

Another Norwegian 18-year old, Martin Samuelsen has only been in West Ham for a couple of weeks, but has already managed to impress the coach, Slaven Bilic, who apparently intends to convert him from midfielder to striker.
