Plus Vote System

Could we have a plus vote system on the forum? You know, that you're only able to up-rep posts, not down-rep, to avoid bullying and personal wars. I think it would improve the forum. Every day I see posts I would up-vote if I could, but quoting and '+1' is too much trouble and takes space. Most forums and comment sections on the net have a plus-voting system, I think.

Pretty sure we did have an only plus vote system for a while.

the only positive feedback good posts need is a worthy reply that sparks nice conversations . And people always make jokes and will always receive positive feedback anyway , getting a +1 will hardly change anything , for better or for worse.

Also , inb4 up votes just so people start abusing it in order to troll OPs and stuff like Benzema is finally a World Class player thread

cause elsewise you don't really need upvotes , i think it's great all we care about is the posts and nothing else. Not that i would mind if it was around once again , i just don't see the need for it?

Maybe put a quota? Like you can only upvote once per day or something

If someone gets votes due to their humour, so what? We're here to be entertained, basically, so it's no bad if good jokes and insightful posts alike get recognised.

I have had better experiences with up-vote forums and comment sections. People get rewarded for good posts. I don't see the downside in that.

And yes there are sometimes where I like a thread and I' d feel to "reward" it but I can't do it

My ego is already huge enough anyway, there is no way it can get bigger

They brought back the "+" system (with no "-" feature), however some people found a way around it. I don't think it's necessary - even though I like the system. We've just had it on here enough time to see it doesn't really work if it's going to be abused (which it always will be).

maybe there isn't a downside per se (did i say that right?) , but surely there doesn't seem to be a particular need for it either?

I mean , i jump in on GL to read stuff , laugh a bit and be entertained like you said , talk about football e.t.c and when i enjoy some good posts i show it , i approve by discussing e.t.c , not sure why that ain't enough but giving an up vote is better ?

Such as? Can you make a case that it was because of the up votes , because i hardly see how up votes improve a forum experience . People who make a good post don't need nor necessarily expect to be rewarded for it , it could be one's opinion on a footbal matter or someone's sense of humour , by giving OP a +1 won't necessarily mean more than replying with a post/laugh with his joke e.t.c . Up votes have their use in places like reddit and such , in GL , let's just say i don't think there's any real need for it.

And really , just get ready for the troll stuff that would result because of it , even though i don't particularly object to that. Kinda like when Torres was voted Serie A top scorer You can replace that with threads/posts that will come up. In any case , i am yet to see a good argument for it other than , 'it would be nice to show i like something' , it all seems not to be about the OP that gets rewarded , but about the reader to be able to show apprecation , though not with the best way possible -which is to actually post something in regard- .

Again , i am not necessarily opposing the idea nor do i particularly disagree , but is there any actual need for it? Doesn't really seem to be . Good OPs / posts do get rewarded for what they are , i would rather this remains the same rather than the reward be some pointless up votes. It's not like up votes will save the quality posts/threads either , the activity is hardly up there.

Perhaps a testing period would provide sufficient data although it was available back then , but you got to offer better arguments than , 'i would like to show i reward-like this' , because you can already do this and by the proper way , which is by posting something worthy of said quality post.

Hey guys, didn't want to just leave this topic out here without addressing it.

We did originally have a rep system, but it got abused very quickly to the point where it was shut off.

We'll look into what we can do about a points system though. Stay tuned.

If you reintroduce the + vote its easy to - vote people even if the - button isnt there

That said, bring back the original GL rep system pls

I didn't like in the original goal.com forums that people opened celebration threads when they reached XXX number of posts just to get + points.
Anyway, I liked to receive positive points for meaningful or funny posts, but I don't think it's necessary to be honest. Though I'm not for neither against it.
