I'm so, so frustrated ATM. 10 years, 10 freaking years I waited to cast my vote. It's so humiliating.

@Hapless_Hans what's your take on DW??? I understand they are like the BBC of Germany, state funded/operated mainstream media. Following is one of their reports:

Re: Political Crisis in Bangladesh
Let me give you a brief background of the 2018 Election. The campaign phase was marked with unprecedented intimidation and manipulation. An estimated ten thousand people were arrested in the pre-election crack-down. The arrested didn’t just include opposition (BNP) activists & supporters but general people as well. The charges (intention/plan to sabotage) are fictitious and gave rise to a new term ‘Ghost Cases’. Other means of manipulation, obstruction and intimidation by both ruling-party and the government machinery were widespread during the campaign period.
But the masterstroke came on the night before election when ruling-party activists with active support from government machinery allegedly stuffed 30-60% of the ballots. On Election Day itself, there were widespread instances of voter obstruction, voting center capture and fake voting etc. The result was an unprecedented 96% seats for the ruling alliance with over 100 of them winning 90% of the votes.

Restricting the number and scope of election observers along with regulations like prohibition on photography/video inside the pooling center/booth, live-telecast from scenes of pooling center/booth or even telecasting of footages without permission from EC ensured that much of these atrocities didn’t go public.

Subsequently the draconian Digital Security Act is ensuring that people don’t take the social media to expose those atrocities.
There are four issues that must be addressed immediately:
Election Tribunal
Election Observation: The presence of competent & sizable observers in the upcoming local government elections might just deter the extent of atrocities and prevent further loss of lives. It should also put a check on electoral malpractices and will encourage participation across political & social spectrum.
https://www.thedailystar.net/politics/145-killed-union-parishad-polls-shujan-1240543
Political Prosecution: There should be an initiative to involve the United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to ensure those victims receive justice.
https://www.thedailystar.net/politics/attack-on-police-physically-challenged-tara-mia-gets-high-court-bail-1691698
Extrajudicial Killings: The United Nations Commission on Human Rights (UNCHR) and the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) must get involved as local institutes including the government-run National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) don’t have the capacity or integrity to ensure justice to the victims.
https://www.thedailystar.net/country/highest-ever-extrajudicial-killings-in-bangladesh-in-2018-ask-1685563
We don’t have any domestic institute that has the capability or integrity to address these issues. India, China, Russia and the Arabs are what they are. Our only hope lies with the saner countries like US, Canada, EU etc. Already Germany and Japan has started to warm-up with the regime.

Re: Political Crisis in Bangladesh
Approximately one-third of Bangladesh is flooded. The flooded regions are mostly in the north-west and north-east parts of the country. Some adjoining regions of Dhaka is also flooded.
Dhaka itself hasn't been flooded, yet. Some parts of Dhaka is flooded/underwater not due to rising rivers but due to non-existent drainage that can't channel the light/medium showers we had recently.
The monsoon is expected to continue in Aug/Sep, so we may haven't seen the worst yet.

Re: Political Crisis in Bangladesh
Terribly upsetting and disgusting development from Bangladesh.
Our government has decided to lift the 50-year old travel restriction on Israel. No, they haven’t recognized Israel or have established diplomatic relation with them either. Why do you want to allow people to travel to a country you don’t recognize???
There isn’t any foreseeable or conceivable trade/business opportunities with Israel. Most of our trades (and investments) are with US, Canada, EU, China, and India. True, millions of Bangladeshis work in gulf states (in slave like conditions, I must add) but surely Israel don’t need migrant workers. So the only possible explanation is our government bent over let their Sheikh masters screw them.
This is way worse than the betrayal by the Sheikhs. They don’t have any history of struggle and emancipation and are oblivious to the sufferings of subjugated people.
But Bangladesh went through a bloody liberation war, three million killed and nearly 10 million driven out, to win it’s independence. The ruling party claims to be the vanguard of that liberation movement. The Prime Minister proclaims her father to be the Father of the Nation.
Now we have blood on our hands. I have never been so enraged and ashamed before. Please forgive us.

Man, you're oozing pride and honor with every word you type. It warms my heart when I see that even to this day, even during a time when it has become a crime to support them; Palestine still has support. Thank you.
And just FYI, even with the travel restriction lift, your country is still a thousand times better and more honorable than some Arab countries who have been stabbing Palestine in the back since 1948. You have nothing to ask forgiveness for, ifti. You're aces in my book.
