Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
This fixture has mixed sign for us with records quiet close in last nine fixtures. Liverpool has won four, Villa has won three, while two matches ended in draws with Liverpool outscoring their opponents 11-9. However, Liverpool has won three out of four games at Villa Park.
Aston Villa is 0-3-3 in last six games while Liverpool is 3-2-1 during the same period.
Probable Liverpool starting XI
-------------Mignolet-------------
--------Emre-Skrtel-Sakho--------
Markovic-Henderson-Lucas-Moreno
---------Coutinho-Gerrard---------
--------------Raheem-------------

Re: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
They are ripe for the taking. Refreshed Sterling, invigorated Markovic and a managed Gerrard should have this game go our way.
Looking at a 3 - 1 victory methinks. Sterling, Coutinho and Sakho with the goals!

Re: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
Incredibly, Villa have scored just 11 goals this season. Everton have 30. Yet somehow they're tied for points. Crazy.
It gets even better as Clark (suspended), Vlaar and Senderos (both injured), all central-defenders, are missing for Villa. Even a fourth CB, Baker, is a doubt, and hasn't played since early November anyway.
So, basically they're missing their defense and they can't score. It should be very difficult for us to find a way to not win this one.

Predictions in this thread:
If we lose/draw: It's all Rodgers fault, the fraud, bla bla etc
If we win: We were carried by X. Players bailing us out yet again!

He's right though. That's how the sentiment has been around here this season.

That's the biggest generalization ever, it's like you think Rodgers can do no bad.

Re: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
^ Exactly what I was gonna say.
I was very well critical of him and his tactics til the Man Utd game, but since then his approach and changes has been positive (He reacted with a very brave formation IMO) and it's been positive since I'm willing to give him the benefit of the doubt to continue with this.
Our run with 3-4-3: L, D, W, W, D, W, W. A far cry from November and the manager (as well as the players) deserve credit for it.
It's a team sport. In any win/loss both managers and players are responsible.

Re: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
if we manage to draw or lose this one
Agreed, Rodgers deserves much credit that he rested Sterling and won the last two games. Just imagine if it had backfired, what the reaction would have been (Falcao example ) The current form is good just that Leicester draw is still hurting me, may be I should learn to 'let go' sometimes.
We just need to put another WC away 1-0 performance and come back with 3 Points. Clean shite is really important

Re: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
You lazy, god-awful bunch. This is a match thread take your whining to the appropriate thread.
On topic, I think Coutinho and Gerrard will relish two mobile targets in Raheem & Markovic and these two can combine better than Markovic did with Borini.

Must win. Foff, They are there for the taking.
Sturridge cameo with a victory would be the best day of the season.

If Rodgers regards Gerrard as a 'must start' player in the big games, then I'd expect him not to start here.

What's Lambert's record like Rodgers again? Their record is always LLLDLLL before they vs us. Won't be an easy game.

Re: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
The Villa fans are planning a protest, that Holte End fans would vacate their seats for the first eight minutes of the match. Even the crowd doesn't seem to be on the home team's side here.

Re: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
Joe Cole wont play, Nor will Senderos, Vlaar and Clark.
Baker-Okore CB pairing i guess if Baker is fit. Weimann and Benteke forward pairing cuz they like us. Charles Gil will get his debut probs.
They are in crisis, We have to put them down.

Re: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
Probably start Borini over Balotelli up top with Raheem playing behind him, but otherwise that looks good.
Or:
Or:
Lovren-Skrtel-Sakho
Can-Henderson-Lucas-Moreno
Coutinho-Markovic
Sterling

Re: Aston Villa vs. Liverpool
No man, the way Emre & Markovic have played in last few games, they have their places locked-down. So it's either Balotelli or Borini. May be one in each half .El Cujo wrote:Probably start Borini over Balotelli up top with Raheem playing behind him, but otherwise that looks good.
