Liverpool v Aston Villa Empty Liverpool v Aston Villa

Post by Art Morte Fri Sep 25, 2015 12:33 pm

A must-win game for Rodgers? I hope it is.

Aston Villa signed a thousand players in the summer, but the early signs seem to be that that hasn't changed anything for them from last season; they're flirting with the relegation zone, just like last season. After their opening day win over Bournemouth, they've lost four and drawn one. On the other hand, they're unbeaten in their last four visits to Anfield...

And four seems to be the magic number; we are winless in our last four league games.

Benteke, Firmino and Lovren will miss the game through injury, although one would like to think Lovren would have been benched by Sakho anyway.

I suppose the only really big question about our line-up is that are both Sturridge and Ings going to start or just one of them.

Including all competitions, we haven't scored more than one goal in a game in 11 games. Could really do with breaking that run and put a few past Aston Villa and take the three points. Yeah.

I just want to see us play well. I don't expect anything results wise. Hoping Sturridge can get on the score sheet. And hopefully Firmino as well. It'll help him settle in.

Otherwise Villa have been notoriously difficult to beat at Anfield in the recent past.

Firmino should get a start. Also, Benteke should be preferred to Sturridge IMO as you shouldn't rush Sturridge to full workload.

Firmino is injured. Cracked a bone against Carlisle. Benteke is also injured.

Coutinho, Sturridge, and Ings will probably start. Possibly Lallana.

I'd go:

Bogdan*
Clyne - Skrtel - Sakho - Gomez
Milner
Can - Lallana
Coutinho
Sturridge - Ings

*deserves a recognition for his penalty heroics

^ He is injured. Confirmed he and Benteke aren't going to be involved this weekend in the idiots presser.

The f is going on in this thread?

I would play Benteke upfront with Henderson behind him.

That's not a bad idea, Hank.

Clyne needs rest, btw, Flanagan should start this one.

Well done Sturridge.

I think everyone was really good bar Sakho. Lucas is the best DM we've got, Only if could pass as well as he tackles.

Ings upfront with Sturridge looks better than Benteke and Sturridge imo.

Sakho was beaten mercilessly throughout the game aerially.

Three points and three goals, I'll take that Proud

I don't really blame Sakho or anyone for the 2nd goal. When a good cross like that is landing better for the center-forward than the defender, you can't always win it as the defender. Not that Sakho had a good game, he wasn't solid overall, but not blaming anyone for their 2nd goal.

I wish we stopped playing Can as a CB already. He was the most at fault for the first goal. He's not a defender, he hasn't got a defender's mind set. Switches off. I think it's stupid that Rodgers plays him as a CB just to fit him in the XI.

Anyway, the best thing besides the win was of course Sturridge's two good goals. We need him. And we needed this win.

I think we played good today, we used the space well and if we manage to score first goal, we would have more space in final third.

Mind you, after so much talk about so many things, we are just two points away from 4th placed Arsenal. The only problem is if we can build up on this.
