And now compare with the player who is currently wearing the #4 at Barca with the heavy touch, overhitting long balls, playing ping-pong passes under pressure and showing 0 creativity. Proud

That's exactly why doing it in a midtable team and in the Europa League doesn't necessarily mean you can do it for a big team. Hopefully everyone learned his lesson.

Why are you comparing the performances of last season with this season. He was the CAM in a counter attacking team last season with Sevilla. Now he's playing as a CM in a team that faces parked buses every game.

He played as the furthest forward midfielder many times, especially in recent times whenever he started alongside Xavi with Iniesta injured. He doesn't really play in a deep position which should severally hamper his game. The lack of quality is apparant regardless of position. He overhits long balls, doesn't attempt throughballs and simply offers no creativity. If he was MUCH better than what I'm seeing at Barca and it's only down to change from a counterattacking system to a possession based system which in other words means he needs oceans of space to operate at a class level it just further proves that he's even more unsuitable to Barca than Cesc whose creativity wasn't hampered by congested defenses despite his other flaws.

Okay, I've calmed down. After watching some Cesc highlights I take it back. He remains a scrub.

well, while i agree Rakitic does not look as brilliant as everyone thought to be, he certainly can be givent time to call scrub or to get complete upset. I mean, this is first him playing for such a team and he can be given a season with us, he certainly can learn and improve. He is not at 30 atleast....I would rather bet on him learning than busquet getting his old self...

Assists Laughing

Get outta here with those useless stats.

Sidepass for 30 yard screamer = assist.

Really crucial to performance Rolling Eyes

I dont think a single person expected Rakitic to put similar numbers as he did in Sevilla and nobody expected him to be some elite final passer. He is a hard working midfielder with some physical tools while not being an oaf with the ball. He was great for Sevilla last season, one of the best in the league, this is without question.

Trying to blame him for this game in any way is pathetic, the team played like crap and without ideas. Simple as that.

He was great against Espanyol and got appalled as he left the field, rightfully so, and that performance is exactly what I would like to see from him...and it included zero finals passes or meaningless assists.

tbf I would be appalled too if I had to leave the field while others like Busquets stay on no matter how bad they are playing.
