The Decline of Real Madrid
Madrid are changing their skin to start fresh all over again - Carlo Ancelloti -Sep 2014.
Everything which Mourinho has meticulously built over three years had been disarmed. The selling of Ozil, di maria, Lopez, Alonso and now the coach privileges. When Mourinho took over the shambles of Madrid, they were nothing but a practice and a good warm up for any team in any league in the CL. Back in the days, it was a mutual benefit; Madrid wanted to dethrone Barcelona from being the top club in La Liga and be competitive again in the CL and Mourinho wanted a new challenge and full control over the club policies related to team selection and players market; the result was a marriage that lasted three years and perhaps the only one in recent memory in a club like Real Madrid. A club that thrives on politics where trophies are just a facade.
He was the only man that could have brought back Madrid from the land of the forgotten. After a good transitional first season and a successful second dethroning Barcelona, Mourinho's main mission had been accomplished. Ofcourse he was brought to win the ever sought after La Decima but the blueprint is now in place and Mourinho, the perfectionist who is now after more corrections in the club is now a cause of concern and instability; he shall no longer be required and his services shall be dismissed. To start a fire, you need three things; a combustible source (mourinho; a consumable), oxygen (fans, dressing room; an unlimited resource)and finally a spark (Iker Casillas and the media) and the fire rises.
There is still hope that when Madrid tastes again the bitterness of failure, the club will restore at least some of the privileges that were once brought by the man who single-handedly changed the structure of Real Madrid.

Re: The Decline of Real Madrid
Spot on as usual and it's very sad to see.
Only 1 month ago, I thought R.Madrid had the most balanced and depthed squad of all time, being European Champions and all.
now kicking out ADM, Xabi, and Lopez, has completely destroyed all the structure built before, and I won't be surprised if they don't even make top 4 in La Liga this year following emergence of Valencia and Sevilla.

Re: The Decline of Real Madrid
Decline is not the appropriate word.
They are very likely to be in la liga top 2 and reach the semis of the CL.

Happened to Bayern after Pep's takeover, too. They still won the double, albeit not CL.Art Morte wrote:Win CL in May.

OK.
First the infection has to happen then the symptoms are felt and the degradation has started before La Decima, which was a foregone conclusion, was won. It was not a matter of whether Madrid wins it but how many and when. Go check mid 2013 posts about the subject.
Winning La Decima was a response to Mourinho's departure; the formula was already in place and the same team. It was just a temporary whiplash nothing to do with continuity or consistency. There were two "guaranteed" ways Madrid would have won La Decima at that point in time; either by Casillas's departure or Mourinho's. Something had to give; and whilst on a surface level many were happy that La Decima was won back in may, the reward wouldve been greater if Mourinho stayed . Of course non of this matters because the end result was a victory either way and you cant evaluate what you dont experience so all this remains in the realm of speculation. Winning La Decima; however, got nothing to do with all this, the decline of Madrid.

Re: The Decline of Real Madrid
It was Ancelotti's tactics that won the CL, not Mourinho's.

Re: The Decline of Real Madrid
I doubt we would get out of it anytime soon cos ronaldo wants to leave, and if he leaves, that's a giant gap to fill. The Only players that can fill that gap are messi, robben, di maria. But Jese can also try to fill it.

Re: The Decline of Real Madrid
Initially I thought Perez would learn from the Galaticos 1 era.... but I guess ppl are just dont change. No ones perfect and his problem remains I guess hes too ambitious and just thinks about the stars and business side of things. Disrupting and destroying the team balance lol. I guess u can say he helped build a successful team again, and yet destroyed it again.

Re: The Decline of Real Madrid
With Diego here, Carlo implemented a rotation for keepers. Now that he's gone why isn't the same thing going on for Keylor and Iker?
Was Keylor just brought to sit on the bench while Iker plays his last few seasons here? Rumors are Casillas will also play CL too.
