Lewis Baker - The Future
So, Lewis has been officially named as a starting XI player.
http://www.chelseafc.com/news/latest-news/2014/09/academy-graduates-in-first-team-squad.htmlLewis Baker is a full-time member of Jose Mourinho’s first team squad for the season ahead.
The 19-year-old midfielder becomes the third young player to move up from the Academy’s development squads in 2014, following on from Nathan Ake and Andreas Christensen.
Baker, who has the squad number 34, is a technically accomplished player who creates as well as scores goals and can fulfil a variety of midfield roles. He signed a new five-year contract last week having been part of Mourinho’s pre-season preparations away in Europe, during which the Luton-born player told chelseafc.com: ‘I’m doing okay at the moment but it’s important for me to keep listening and learning every day if I want to improve.’
He is also set to captain England's U-21's for the first time tonight against Romania, A big achievement for him.
He was also the subject of Jose's praise during July:
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/football/article-2709249/Jose-Mourinho-says-Chelsea-kids-Lewis-Baker-Izzy-Brown-Dominic-Solanke-dont-play-England-blame-ME.html‘My conscience tells me that if, for example, Baker, Brown, and Solanke are not national team players in a few years, I should blame myself,’ Mourinho said.
And he is also our current young player of the year, having won that award in May.
So all things are looking good for Lewis (Including being the latest player to get his own thread, an prestigious award for all of his efforts). Let's hope he gets a few first team appearances and builds on his current status in the team. He certainly has the potential to be fantastic.

They've really gone downhill.
Anyway, I would welcome it but I don't think it'll happen, just yet.

I think it;ll depend on his opportunities with us in the interval. If he gets a decent chunk of cumulative minutes, I can see him staying. If not, I think he could well go out.

"Training with the likes of Matic and Cesc Fabregas at Chelsea, I’m learning from the best and that’s what you want to do."
"And being part of the [Chelsea] first team is a great honour for me."
"But being called up to the Under-21s is another great achievement for me."
"It’s a good step, and a big step, and I just need to keep working hard and playing the way I play."

I was hoping that he was going to be loaned to a Premier League team.

Re: Lewis Baker - The Future
Not good enough yet, I'd say. Last thing we want is another Chalobah-like loan. Would rather he went to the Championship and played than the Premier League and didn't.

Lewis Baker has today joined League One side MK Dons on loan until the end of the season.
The 19-year-old signed a new five-year contract with Chelsea in August and made his debut as a substitute in last year’s FA Cup third-round win at Derby County. Baker also scored the goal which secured last season’s Barclays Under-21 Premier League title.
He also won the club’s 2013/14 Young Player of the Year and Goal of the Season awards, and earned a first England Under-21 call-up in October.
Best of luck to him.
