Western/Wild West Movies
I'm a fan of western/wild west movies. Unfortunately, I don't see any such movies in the movie channels in recent years. NO, I don't consider Cowboys & Aliens or Wild Wild West as westerns.
Please suggest some names. Don't have to be recent movies as I haven't seen a lot of the oldies. You my also suggest links or sites where I can find the names.

I would suggest looking up Clint Eastwood (The Good, The Bad and The Ugly and Two Mules for Sister Sarah). Also, 3:10 to Yuma starring Christian Bale and Russell Crowe was really good

Re: Western/Wild West Movies
True Grit, the remake by the Coens was a good Western.
Peckinpah's The Wild Bunch and Pat Garrett and Billy The Kid are fantastic, his early Western movies are supposed to be great too (Ride the High Country etc) though I haven't seen them.
The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance is one of the greatest I've seen. If you don't mind classic stuff.
The Searchers, too. Both by John Ford with John Wayne.
If you want something a bit more obscure and recent I can recommend Meek's Cutoff from a couple of years ago.
Not if you dislike 'art' movies though, but I thought it was beautiful.
Heaven's Gate imo is an incredible and interesting film, though many find it boring.

Re: Western/Wild West Movies
Thanks guys. Though I have seen most of the movies you mentioned, there's some that I haven't yet. I wouldn't mind (would love actually) if you keep churning up more names. Meanwhile, those who haven't seen it I recommend Mackenna's Gold.
I wonder if they have made any good movie out of Little House on the Prairie, could be a classic.

Re: Western/Wild West Movies
There have already been some excellent suggestions made in the thread.
The major ones I believe that have been missed thus far are:
Once Upon a Time in the West - In the same vein as Eastwood's Spaghetti Westerns, the Italian directing style brings a slow but methodical method to the Western. Many scenes contain minutes of silence and little action but it's populated by fantastic characters and has one of the most memorable tales of revenge in the entire canon.
Broken Arrow - Very significant as essentially the first classic Western to portray Native Americans sympathetically. One of many James Stewart films that are essential viewing for fans of the genre. This is probably my favourite of his works, though The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence - already mentioned - and Winchester 73 are up there.
High Noon - My favourite Gary Cooper Western, a short and simple but marvelously well constructed tale. It subverts the gratitude and good will of the town for Cooper brilliantly as he is slowly abandoned and isolated leading to one of the best show downs in the Western genre. If I were to recommend another Cooper film it would definitely be The Hanging Tree.
The Big Country - A sprawling epic with terrific performances from Gregory Peck, Burl Ives and Charles Bickford without even considering Jean Simmons and Charlton Heston. Very cleverly unveils the two sides behind a destructive dispute thanks to very strong performances by the opposing personalities. To add another Gregory Peck film to the list, it's quite obscure, but The Gunfighter is a very underrated addition to any Western list.
The Searchers as mentioned by Hans is an incredible film and you can gain a lot just by going through John Wayne's filmography so I'll just throw out Rio Bravo for a change up with two great singers who act surprisingly well and 3 Godfathers as an often forgotten film.
Just as I was about to finish this off I remembered that I'd neglected one of my favourites of all time, The Magnificent Seven. An absolute must see. Tombstone is also a solid, more contemporary film.

Re: Western/Wild West Movies
The Proposition with Guy Pearce. Really good Aussie western.
I like just about everything already listed above, but I'll add one that many considered a flop and that's The Quick and the Dead starring Sharon Stone.
Most don't care for that one, but I actually like it quite a bit for whatever reason.

Leo is the worst gunslinger of all time, but I don't let that sink the movie for me. Russell Crowe and Gene Hackman were good. Sharon Stone was pretty badass as well. Some real good cameos from other stars too.
