Re: General Games Discussion
Just be aware RG that the Mass Effect games are a massive time sink, they will take about a month to complete if you play at a steady pace and you don't skip all the dialogue, so clear your backlog first before you think about attempting to play them.
Tbh, I'll actually be surprised if you manage to get half way past Mass Effect 1, the gameplay is complete junk.

Mass Effect never got my attention cause I am not into futuristic style games.
But is it actually good? two contrasting opinions of Jon and M99/Mole

Mass Effect 1 is a great RPG, Mass Effect 2 and 3 are great third person shooters with RPG elements.
ME2 should be in everyone's list of games played.

Can I play ME2 and ignore ME1? or it's a story which builds up?

Re: General Games Discussion
definitely a story that builds up. ME1 was good for it's time, probably outdated now. ME2 is a top 5 game of last gen.

ME1 must be really cheap now so I'd recommend getting it. IMO playing it first would make you appreciate how awesome ME2 is and relate to the significance of the events taking place

Those terrible side quests.
@RG Don't skip ME1, gameplay is outdated but ME1 helps you get into the lore and background of the universe. aside from that, there are major plot decisions that greatly effects the next two games, for example if you start from ME2, game will assume Wrex is dead.

Re: General Games Discussion
Xbox One owners are complaining that a new TV advert showcasing the console’s voice activation features by using the phrase “Xbox On” has been switching on their consoles without their permission.
Users on Twitter and Reddit have reported that the advert – which features Breaking Bad’s Aaron Paul – uses the phrase, triggering the Kinect’s voice sensor and turning on the console.

Yeah, Mass Effect 1 has not aged well at all. It doesn't help that it has major performance issues, with constant pop ins and fluctuating frame rate, and that it looks more like a beta instead of a full game due to the amount of recycled environments and aged graphics. Like I said, I'll be surprised if RG makes it half way through it.
@RG
What I advise you to do is either:
1. Play Mass Effect 1, skip all the sidequests and only focus on the main quest and DLC. This will save you from doing the godawful side quests and will allow you to finish the game quickly.
OR
2. Skip ME1, go straight to ME2 and buy the Genesis Comic DLC, which is a 15 minute voiced comic which tells you what happened in the first game, and let's you make the important choices that you want for your game. So for example, you will be able to choose if you want Wrex alive in your game or not, without having to play the first game.
Mass Effect 2 and 3 are much more polished and have superior gameplay, especially 3, with its amazing multiplayer. I advise you to pick an easy class to start with though, probably Soldier, so that you can get a hang of the game mechanics before trying out the other classes and their amazing powers.
I'll think you'll love the games man, even if futuristic stuff isn't usually your style.

Re: General Games Discussion
Hmm, does anyone here play the Madden games? How are they?
I'm looking for a new sports game to go alongside PES/FIFA, because I can only play football games so much, and after some research on various sports games, Madden piqued my interest the most.
Mind you, I know nothing about the NFL. I don't watch it, I don't know it's rules(though if it's like Rugby rules that won't matter) or it's players, but the games look interesting.

Re: General Games Discussion
mass effect 1 is definitely worth playing, if you can get past the atrocious inventory management system... reading (watching) a comic about it doesn't connect you to the characters nearly as much... that said, kaidan alenko is an awful character and i'd let him die 15 times out of 10 if i could
it's a topic about games, in which it was pointed out that a pc version of a game was gimped in order to not look much better than the console version of the same game... please do explain how exactly it's not relevant
see, this is exactly why the whole "pc master race" shtick exists, the uninformed bullshit... you absolutely do not have to upgrade every year, an 800 euro pc will absolutely pummel console performance right now, and most certainly up until the end of this generation because there is no optimization to be had in console hardware
looking forward to the posts about how a ps4 costs half that, posted from a €1500 apple® macbook® pro® retina display® used to watch porn and shitpost on internet forums
i'm not trying to convince anyone to run out and buy a gaming computer, but for god's sake if you're arguing against it at least use an argument that actually makes sense
*bleep* me this debate is still going in 2014, people feeling the need to shove their preferences down other peoples throats in unrelated *bleep* topics. *bleep* off ffs

Personally prefer console as I couldn't be bothered to upgrade a device annually for a smaller grid of pixels.

Of course it would Che.
A 800 euro machine will always outperform a 400 euro machine, we all understand that.
At least i hope we do

I say play Mass Effect. You will get to know the characters, story, setting, lore and as Che said get connected. Your decisions carrying over and attachment you build to characters is important for Mass Effect 2 as the save file carries over and enhances the experience. The only way to play ass Effect on PS3 is to buy the triology pack which is a great deal. 3 games for the price of one and the price is most likely reduced now.

step 1:€5 hdmi cable
step 2:€40 xbox controller
TADAAAA
you now have a console, and you can watch movies/play music on it, and do spreadsheets, and browse the web
btw since we're talking about mass effect and benefits of pc, the whole trilogy was on sale on origin for €10 last winter, and the first two were on steam for €7,50 two days ago

Yep. Don't forget to buy all the DLC RG. It will cost you quite a bit though since you would be buying all the DLC at once, instead of buying them individually on their respective release days like I did.

How is it irrelevant lol? If i buy a £800 PC i'm in my rights to expect it to vastly outperform a £400 PC.... no one has ever denied that.
As for the question.... yes i do use a Laptop at home but its really cheap, i only use it for browsing the internet and listening to music.

I think all the DLCs are included in this disc. I am pretty sure all the Mass Effect 2 DLC is at least. And nah I don't play Madden.

Re: General Games Discussion
Yeah, the PS3 version of ME2 came with all the paid DLC except the last one, Arrival. I'm not sure about free DLC like Zaeed and Project Firewalker though.
EDIT:Yep, just checked online. The PS3 version of the Mass Effect Trilogy comes with Bring Down The Sky for Mass Effect 1, and Cerberus Network(needed to get the free DLC), the Genesis comic, Kasumi, Overlord, and Lair of the Shadow Broker for Mass Effect 2.
RG would need to buy Arrival and the N7 Arsenal Bundle for ME2, and everything else for ME3, except the Extended Cut which is free.
No problem, seems like no one here has played Madden

Saw the exact same texture in one of the rooms in uncharted 1 which is in TLOU as well lmao. Same room structure too. It's when you are trying to go to the generator room and see those undead things.
