Who will flop? Argentina
Who will top? Switzerland
Which big country will exit unexpectedly at the group stages? France (I wanted to say England, but would that really be unexpected?)
Who will be the top scorer? Josip Drmic
Where will this WC rank? Better than 2022
Will Messi score at least one goal? Yeah, Argentina is in a comparatively weak group, even Messi should get one or the other World Cup goal there.
Dark Horse: Switzerland (even though Hitzfeld prefers Diego Benaglio to Yann Sommer )

Basing this solely off of results between now and 2010 WC.
Dark horse candidates are generally the 3rd strongest contenders, just a shade below the front 2. To me at least, Germany fit that description.
Simply can't bring myself to list them as front-runners considering how they fared in 2010 and Euro 2012.

Re: Predict The World Cup
Who will flop? Argentina of course, they are my favourite team but sad to say they dont look like title contenders, way too many imbalance and glaring weaknesses in that squad. A pre- quarter exit is on the cards I reckon.
Who will top? Uruguay (will beat Brazil in the final)
Which big country will exit unexpectedly at the group stages? England (they are still a big side on the footballing map IMHO )
Who will be the top scorer? Lukaku and Suarez
Where will this WC rank? For taking place on the Samba soil alone, its Going to be an amazing WC.
Will Messi score at least one goal? Sure he will.
Dark Horse ? either Belgium or Columbia. I have a feeling Belgium will reach the semis.

Where will this WC rank? Good , better than 2010 surely. But not close to 1998 that is the best World Cup seen by me.

I think dark horse refers not to 3rd favorite but to unlikely or unexpected winners. I like this definition, which Germany certainly does not meet:
dark horse
noun
a candidate or competitor about whom little is known but who unexpectedly wins or succeeds.

They are definitely not the surefire favorites that Spain and Brazil are, which automatically puts them in the unexpected category. Ergo, if we're going by the above definition, that makes them dark horses.

yea if it was taking place in europe or in some other continent. then I agree. But since the WC is in the soil of the great Latin America this time around they are expected to scale heights. anything below a semi final would be massive underachievement considering their familiarity with the conditions. In case of Brazil its one step higher btw. their people wont tolerate if they cant get into the final which they easily will IMO.

Re: Predict The World Cup
So Argentina are expected to do better because we will play in a country where every match will be an away match?
That being said with the easy draw we had anything less than semis will be flopping.

Re: Predict The World Cup
What exactly does Belgium have to do to be considered flops? Because the only way they would be considered flops to me is not getting past the group stages, and that just seems unlikely. Or do we all just hate jill that much?

Re: Predict The World Cup
belgium are basically the defensive midfielder of national teams, it's the hipster pick to do well at the moment... praising them shows how you know a lot about football and don't just follow the biggest teams/leagues so pretty much everybody's doing it, which carries its own hype, so them not doing well will make millions of armchair managers shrug in unison as they agree that belgium did not, in fact, have the needed experience to succeed or some other vague bs that everyone will conveniently forget in two months

Re: Predict The World Cup
I was supporting Spain and Holland last time both reached the final. Spain because of sesk and Holland because of rvp. It went to the wire and fab set up inesta to score the winner.
After that sesk betrayed arsenal and left us. I never really forgotten sesk antics but I made my peace with him. Rvp also left us and he was a bigger betrayer.
This time im not sure which team to support But i like germany england this time. I have kits of spain and brazil it would be great if these 4 teams reach the final stages.
